Chatham Elementary School Community Update

February 2, 2025

Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,

Happy Ground Hog Day! I am sure many students will be interested to see if Punxutawney Phil sees his shadow today. I know that I am hoping that the famous groundhog will not see his shadow and that we will have an early spring!

Here at CES, we continue to be amazed by how fast the school year is flying by. While February is the shortest month of the year, there is no shortage of activities and events taking place at CES!

Please note that this is the final week of Session II Clubs. All Session II clubs end this Friday, February 7th. There will be NO CLUBS the week of February 10th-14th. The Session III catalog and registration will take place next week and Session III Clubs will begin on our return from February Break, the week of February 24th.

The Nook

CES is excited about our new addition to the cafeteria. The Nook is a small structure that provides a cozy spot to eat and enjoy the company of friends while cutting down the outside noise of the cafeteria.

Each day, new SHARKS are invited to dine in the Nook. It has been a great success and we are very grateful to Mr. MacMillan (MRSD Business Manager) and Mr. Nok (MRSD Food Services Director) for purchasing one for our school!

Data Days

In addition to the day-to-day assessment that take place in all of our classes, students at CES participate in benchmark assessments three times a year. These beginning (BOY), middle (MOY) and end of year (EOY) assessments, highlight student areas of strength and also where students may need additional support.

During the month of January, our SHARKS were assessed in math, reading, and writing. On Monday and Tuesday each classroom teacher will sit down with our school's MTSS Team to review each student's data, make goals, and plan instruction to ensure the success of every SHARK!

CES March Madness Returns

This week's match up is between PARK TO PLAYA and LEO'S FIRST VOTE. Students will vote on their favorite during their Media Class. In the meantime, if you would like to watch and listen to these beautiful stories, please check out the CES Read Across America Playlist on our school's YouTube account. New videos are added each week during the competition.

Chatham Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The PTO meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Parents that would like to attend from home can connect via the Zoom Meeting Link provided below. There are lots of activities coming soon and all sorts of help is needed.
