Principal's Message Principal's Message

I would like to inform you of some activities we have coming up in October. On October 16, we will have the annual Vision, Data and iReady Information Night that we would like all of you to attend. This helps us stay connected to our families outside of the school building and gives you an opportunity to review data and give us feedback.

We will also have an ELA cross curricular field trip to Charleston and the Q1 You Are Awesome Party at Surfside Bowling Center on October 21 and 22, 2025. On October 21, the 8th grade will travel to Charleston, while the 7th grade will go to Surfside. The next day, October 22, the 8th grade will go to Surfside, while the 7th grade will travel to Charleston.

Please see the information for all of these activities linked below…

Our first reading challenge of the year, "The Great Escape", began on Wednesday and will run through October 2nd. Students must read and log 600 minutes, as well as complete the three assigned activities in order to be eligible to attend our monthly reading celebrations. Please encourage your children to read and log daily. Better yet, create a designated reading time where the whole family reads for 20 minutes a night. Be a reading role model and help us create a community of readers!

Each month we like to celebrate our challenge winners with games, prizes, and snacks. If you would like to support our reading program and our students, monetary donations are greatly appreciated. Please contact Mrs. Adams, radams@gcsd.k12.sc.us, or Mrs. Hoppe, choppe@gcsd.k12.sc.us, in the library with any questions. Thank you for contributing to the success of our students!

College Funding Coach

On September 18th at 6:00pm at Waccamaw High School, in collaboration with Waccamaw Schools, Mike Russell of The College Funding Coach® will be presenting a workshop on The Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College. There is no cost (except your time) to attend. All parents of preschoolers through seniors in high school will benefit from learning from The College Funding Coach®.

As a parent, the reality of paying for college becomes more and more real. Currently, the College Board reports that a "moderate" college budget for an in-state public college averaged $24,061 per year. A moderate budget at a private college averaged $47,831 per year. Wowzers!

Whether you have a preschool student or a senior in high school, you will learn valuable information that is timely for you. Feel free to invite other parents to attend, too. We'd love to welcome you and them to this event! Register by clicking on the following link:

Waccamaw Schools – Little Known Secrets of Paying for College

While the workshop is free of charge, registration is appreciated. We hope to see you there!
