Advance Reader Copies: Book Reviews submitted for publication

ARCs for Teens: Book Review Opportunity!

Want to Read Books Before They’re Published and Flex Your Writing Skills?

The NHC library is looking for teen readers to review ARCs - Advance Reader Copies - of select upcoming middle grade and young adult books before they hit the shelves. As a reviewer, you'll get a free copy of the book to keep in exchange for your honest review!

Even cooler? Your review will be submitted to School Library Journal - a national publication used by readers, librarians, teachers to discover new books - and published in our monthly NHCPL Teen Book Reviews newsletter!

These ARCs are one-of-a-kind (literally - we only have one copy of each), so it’s first come, first served! If one catches your eye, fill out this form to claim your copy.

If you're the first to claim a title, you’ll get a confirmation email with all the details on how and when to pick up your book. Please only request a book if you're totally in for writing a review, so everyone excited to participate gets a fair shot at this awesome opportunity!

Click here for more information on the books available.

Review Requirements:

Your review should be at least 8 sentences long and focused on your thoughts about the book. Keep plot summary short - no more than two sentences. Instead, tell us what you liked or didn’t like. Was the writing style fun or hard to get into? Did the characters feel real? Did it remind you of any books, shows, or movies you already love? Be honest, be specific, and most of all - have fun sharing your opinions!

Opportunity available to teens aged 12-18, as long as supplies last!

DEC 3 - (10th & 11th) TASS - Telluride Association Summer Seminars

Telluride Association Summer Seminars (TASS) are five-week educational experiences for high school sophomores and juniors. The programs are open to both sophomores and juniors. There are two programs, and applicants are allowed to apply to only one program per year.

  • TASS-CBS - offers seminars that explore topics within history, politics, literature, art, and other intellectual and cultural contributions from people of African descent.
  • TASS-AOS - offers seminars that examine topics in literature, history, art, and other disciplines to investigate how various forms of power shape social structures.

Participants in TASS will attend a college-level, discussion-based academic seminar, develop critical reading and writing skills, and explore the principles and practice of democratic community living. We cover all program costs for every student, including tuition, books, room and board, field trips, and facilities fees. Students may apply for additional financial aid for travel costs and to replace earnings from summer jobs.
  • 2026 Program Dates: June 21, 2026 – July 25, 2026

We cover all of the program costs—tuition, books, room and board, and field trips—for every student. If you need, we can help pay for all or part of your travel costs to and from the program. We understand that you may normally spend time in the summer working at a job, taking care of family members, or supporting your family in other ways. If this is the situation for you, we can provide additional financial aid to help replace earnings from your summer job. Financial aid decisions are made separately from decisions about program admission, so needing financial aid won’t affect whether you are accepted to the program.

APPLICATIONS DUE DECEMBER 3. INTERVIEWS IN THE SPRING.
