2nd - 4th grade classroom spelling bees will be conducted the week of Jan. 6th-9th. Classrooms will pick a date/time that works best for them to complete it that week. Spelling bee study sheets by grade level were delivered to classrooms in December. Parents are not invited to the classroom bees. The top 3 winners/names from each classroom are due no later than 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 9th.

Grade level spelling bees have been scheduled for the following week in the library:

2nd Grade - Jan. 13th @ 2:30 p.m.

3rd Grade - Jan. 14th @ 2:30 p.m.

4th Grade - Jan. 15th @ 12:00 p.m.

Parent/guardians are welcome to attend the grade level spelling bees. Invitations will be sent home for each of the students (top 3 in each classroom) that are participating in the grade level spelling bee.

The Steele Building Bee has also been scheduled for Jan. 23rd @ 2:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. The top 3 spellers from each grade level spelling bee will advance to the school spelling bee. Each of those spellers will receive the full 6-page study list at the end of their grade level bee as well as invitations for their parents/guardians.

The top 3 spellers from the building bee will advance to the District Spelling Bee, scheduled for Feb. 27th at the district office. Our 1st place winner from Steele will be invited to the Regional Spelling Bee, held at Moline High School, on March 21, 2026 @ 1:00 p.m. He or she will receive the "Words of the Champions" packet to study.

Save the Date: PTO Game Night & Silent Auction Save the Date: PTO Game Night & Silent Auction

Steele School PTO is gearing up for our 4th Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser, and we need your help! We are seeking donations of themed baskets, gift certificates, experiences, merchandise, or other popular items to help raise funds for family engagement programs at Steele.

Whether you’re able to donate something personally or help secure a donation through your workplace, from a friend, family member, or community connection, every contribution makes a difference and helps make this year’s fundraiser even more successful than last year.

In January 2025, our 3rd Annual Family Game Night and Silent Auction raised over $3,000. Those funds allowed us to:

  • Provide meals for families at two family events

  • Offer a balloon artist, games, and inflatables at our Spring Carnival

  • Support teachers with meals during parent-teacher conferences

  • Purchase materials for Family Reading Night

  • Provide prizes for Teacher Appreciation Week

Family Game Night is free for all Steele students and their families, and for the past two years, more than 350 people have attended this fun, community-building event.

If you are able to donate an item or basket, please fill out the link or email Steele School PTO at steele205pto@gmail.com to share what you plan to donate. Donations may be dropped off at Steele School by Monday, February 16.

The Shine in #205 program is a way for you to salute any CUSD #205 employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you are a parent/guardian impressed with that special touch your student's teacher added to a moment, a coworker who thinks their colleague doesn't hear often enough about the great job they are doing, or a community member who witnessed a staff member's commitment to students-you can submit a Shine nomination!
