🧠 Screen-Free Academic Activities for Break

Encourage students to keep their minds active and sharp with these engaging, hands-on activities that don't involve a phone or tablet!

Reading & Literacy

  1. Recipe Reading Challenge: Have your child read the instructions for making a simple meal, like cookies or scrambled eggs. They practice sequencing, vocabulary, and following multi-step directions.

  2. Letter Scavenger Hunt: Ask your child to find and list 10 objects in the house that start with a specific letter (e.g., all things starting with 'B'). For older students, have them find objects that contain a specific spelling pattern (e.g., words with 'sh' or 'tion').

  3. "Book Nook" Creation: Help your child build a cozy, dedicated reading fort or special spot. Let them choose and decorate it, making reading time a highly anticipated routine.

Math & Logic

  1. Money Math: Give your child a jar of change and have them count the total amount, sort the coins, and figure out how many different combinations make up a dollar.

  2. Measuring Mania: Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the perimeter of different rooms, furniture, or pets. Have them compare which object has the "biggest" measurement.

  3. Board Game Logic: Play strategy board games (like Checkers, Chess, or Connect Four). These activities boost critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving without a screen.

Science & Critical Thinking

  1. Kitchen Chemistry: Experiment with ingredients you already have: try making homemade playdough, baking soda volcanoes, or testing which household items sink or float in the bathtub.

  2. Nature Observation Journal: Give your child a notebook and encourage them to spend 15 minutes outside each day observing and drawing or writing descriptions of plants, insects, or weather. This strengthens observation skills and attention to detail.

  3. Jigsaw Puzzles: Work on a large jigsaw puzzle as a family. Puzzles are excellent for spatial reasoning, memory, and concentration.

Donate Today

Student Lighthouse is collecting donations

We are collecting donations to support both our deployed military personnel and local families in need. We are accepting items for Travis Bachman Annual Christmas Stockings Drive, which will be sent overseas to bring holiday cheer to our brave service members. We are also collecting non-perishable food items for The Emmaus House Thanksgiving Boxes to help stock the shelves of our local food bank, ensuring every family in our community can enjoy a festive meal. Please bring all donations to the school by Friday, November 14th. Thank you for your incredible generosity in helping us give back this holiday season! .

Drop Off/Pick Up

Pull all the way to the curb to pick up your child. This keeps the lane clear for other cars.

If you park across the street or on a side street, you must walk across the street to meet your child. DO NOT have your child walk across the street alone.

Remember that the church parking lot is available if the street out back is full.

Be respectful of our neighbors. Do not block their driveways or mailboxes.

Always follow all traffic laws. Drive slowly, obey all signs, do NOT stop in the middle of the street, and be aware of crossing guards.
