Strategic Plan Survey for Students - Wednesday During 3rd Hour
As part of the Strategic Planning Process, each year we survey our student body to gather feedback on district and building priorities to maximize the educational experience our students receive at BHS and its impact on our students. The questions will be organized based on areas of the district's strategic plan. We will do so in a coordinated fashion to ensure a high rate of participation. Students will be asked to complete this survey during 3rd hour on Wednesday, February 18th.
We will make an announcement at the beginning of the hour to alert students to scan a provided code with their phones. We thank them for their help in completing this important survey!
0 or 7th Hour Survey for Students
In the near future, we will be reaching out to our student body to see who would have interest in taking a 0 or 7th Hour class to allow them to take an additional class in their schedule. Students may choose to do so for a variety of different reasons, including to have room to take additional elective offerings while still meeting all graduation requirements. There is no guarantee that this will be happening and potential planning is still in its infancy. No need to worry about their responses locking them in to anything if they change their mind between now and when the classes would potentially start. We just wanted you to be aware so that your aren't caught off guard if you hear anything about students being surveyed about this potential opportunity at some point. We will share additional information if/when it becomes appropriate to do so. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! A copy of the survey can be found here.

BHS PTO Meeting Information - **Time Change** for Tuesday, March 10th
The next PTO Meeting will be on Tuesday, March 10th @ 7:00 pm in the Media Center. All are welcome!
BHS PTO is an active part of our students' overall high school experience. In addition to others, the BHS PTO proudly supports the following activities throughout the school year: Registration, educational student assemblies, Academic Letter and Academic Letter Lunches, the Academic Wall, Freshmen class activities, staff appreciation events, financial support for student-run after school clubs and organizations, and the Senior Picnic.
Custodians Needed - Help Get the Word Out!
We have attached a flyer to help get the word out for our current custodial vacancies. We (Brighton Area Schools) are currently down 4-5 custodians, which is making it challenging to keep up with the district's needs. If you know of anyone who may be interested, feel free to share this information with them. You are also more than welcome to share the flyer via any method of your choice if you are willing to do so. Thank you so much!
Kindness and Respect Month
February is BHS KINDNESS AND RESPECT MONTH! While kindness is something we always strive to incorporate into our daily lives here at BHS, this February, we’re taking it to the next level by focusing our attention and intention on leading with kindness! We think this is something that all of our students and staff can rally behind and can have a positive impact on our overall BHS community.
We’re inviting all groups, clubs, teams, councils, boards, and student organizations to join us in spreading kindness throughout our school and community. Let’s show how small acts of kindness can create BIG, positive impacts! You don't have to be a coach or club sponsor to promote and show kindness and respect, but if you are, below is additional information about how you and your group(s) can get involved in a larger fashion.
How can your group contribute?
We’re looking for creative and meaningful ways to promote kindness. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- Create videos for the morning announcements.
- Design eye-catching kindness posters.
- Start a “Random Acts of Kindness” campaign.
- Encourage students to sit with someone new at lunch.
- Brainstorm any other unique ways your group can spread kindness!
What we’re NOT looking for:
This isn’t about fundraisers. Instead, focus on team-oriented projects and initiatives that promote a wholehearted community of kindness.
When you’re ready:
Once your group has a plan, send it to Mr. Grabowski at grabown@brightonk12.com. Have questions or need help brainstorming? Feel free to reach out to Mr. Evans, Mrs. Richards, Mrs. Napuli, or Mr. Grabowski—we’re here to help!
Let’s make February unforgettable by leading with kindness in everything we do. Together, we can make a difference at BHS! Thank you for spreading kindness and respect for everyone!

Unified Assembly Game - Friday, February 20th
Our assembly will start at 1 pm on Friday, February 20th. As a result, we will have an alternate schedule on that day. This will require shortened periods, as well as an adjusted lunch schedule. The schedule, including lunch times is attached. We are encouraging our students to get down to the assembly in a timely fashion so that we can get started at 1 pm.
Upcoming Make Up Attendance Opportunity - February 21st
If your student received an "NC" in any classes 1st Semester as a result of their attendance, students can still make up time in order to earn their 1st Semester credit. In addition to being able to stay after school Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, there is one additional upcoming opportunity to make up a larger block of time. It is listed below:
- Saturday, February 21st from 8 am to 11 am (Sign up IS required. Students should email their grade level principal if they plan to attend)
Upcoming Polar Plunge 2026
If you are involved in leading a Brighton High School club or athletic team, please see the message below from our Brighton High School Unified Sports Program about an upcoming Polar Plunge Opportunity:
Attention All Brighton High Sports Teams and Clubs
Is your team or club looking for a fun way to come together while supporting a great cause? Consider joining forces with Brighton High School’s Unified Program as we take on Hartland High School in a friendly fundraising showdown! The challenge: raise money—and then take the plunge by jumping into a frozen pool in the middle of winter. It’s a memorable experience for an incredible cause!
Polar Plunge Purpose:
To compete with/against Hartland High School to see which school, along with their sports teams and clubs, can raise the most money for Special Olympics and Unified Champion Schools. All students and staff who raise money can participate in the Plunge on March 10th. There will be incentives for the teams, clubs, and school that raise the most money. Our goal as a school is $10,000, but let’s BEAT Hartland in donations and then come together for an awesome PLUNGE!!
What we need from you:
If your team or club would like to battle Hartland in raising donations for a great cause, all while competing for fun prizes and taking the plunge, then please fill out this form no later than Thursday, February 5th. Individuals are free to join our team as well.
Please know that Special Olympics and Brighton/Hartland Unified will take care of everything; all you will have to do is have fun and spread the word!
Let’s make this a fun, whole-school event for a great cause!

Tutoring Options at BHS
National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.
In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.
The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.

Scholarships include a national oratorical contest for public speaking in the form of a "Constitutional Speech Contest," scholarship opportunities for students with Veteran family members, as well as scholarship opportunities for students pursuing skilled trades or law enforcement.
- The second organization is the Hanover Insurance Group as part of The Citizens Insurance Community Scholarship Program. The Citizens Insurance Community Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards high school seniors for academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and commitment to community service. More information on the scholarship opportunities available as part of this program can be found here.
Livingston County Spartans Scholarship - Due March 16th
Each year, the Livingston County Spartans award student scholarships to assist with tuition, room and board, textbooks, etc. This year is no exception! If your student is planning to attend Michigan State University next year, there is a scholarship opportunity available to support their post-secondary education. The application can be found here. All applications are due by March 16th!
Donald P. Pobuda Memorial Scholarship Program
The Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation would like to provide the following information on their Donald P. Pobuda Memorial Scholarship Program. Additional information as well as the application for the scholarship can be found here.
Don Pobuda was a founding member, board member and third President of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club in Brighton, Michigan. He inspired those with whom he came in contact to become better persons and always “think outside the box.”
If one’s life could be summarized into three words, for Don it would have been family, education and
community. Don was an advocate for youth and dedicated his professional life to education as a teacher, counselor, coach and superintendent. He touched the lives of thousands of young people during his 30 years of education.
Once retired, Don’s quest to help others continued. He served as Interim Superintendent in 6 different school districts in Michigan as well as Interim City Manager in the City of Brighton. Don served as President of his condo association, Chairman of the Genoa Township Planning Commission, as a SCORE counselor and on the St. Patrick Parrish Education Commission.
Don spent the final 3 years of his life living with leukemia. However, only very few close to Don even knew about his battle with this disease as Don continued his service to others as if there was nothing amiss. In fact, the most heard phrase at Don’s funeral was, “I didn’t even know Don was sick.” This was a tribute to the kind of man Don was to all who knew him: a man of integrity, kindness and loyalty, putting others needs ahead of his own.
We want to memorialize Don by awarding the scholarship to an individual who has overcome obstacles, physical or otherwise, to excel. The scholarship will be open to any senior graduating from a Livingston County High School and continuing on for post high school education, either academic or vocational.
Michigan Relocation Council (MiRC) 2026 Scholarship - Due March 2nd
The Michigan Relocation Council (MiRC) is a non-profit organization that provides corporate and service industry relocation professionals the opportunity to meet and work together on a regular basis to educate, to learn and to share knowledge and experiences about current relocation practices and emerging relocation issues to better serve and address the diverse needs of relocating employees and their families.
As part of our commitment to Relocation, MiRC has developed a scholarship program for current
high school seniors attending Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo Public Schools and their surrounding counties high schools, who have relocated into or within Michigan sometime between grades 9 (after 8 th grade graduation) and 12.
A one-time award of $1,000 will be presented to a Michigan high school senior this year. (Eligibility is limited to seniors attending Michigan public high schools). The award will be sent directly to the college that the student will be attending to assist with tuition, etc. The MiRC organization will select the scholarship winner based on the strength of their total application.
The student will be evaluated based on the following:
1.) Academic performance (as validated by transcripts from the counselor’s office),
2.) Extra-curricular activities (to be provided to us along with the application and essay), and
3.) The student’s essay addressing the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and
a new high school (please see greater details regarding the essay requirements below).
The application can be found here. All applications are due by March 2nd!

In addition, consider using the "Your Best, Your Growth, Your Future" part of the app to submit a goal and receive 1:1 support and feedback to help you achieve it!
