Ms. Seaman is excited to join the BSE family!

Hello! My name is Ms. Emily Seaman! This year is my 17th year as a teacher, but my first year at BSE. Prior to my time at BSE, I was a teacher in Lawrence for several years, and in KCKPS for one year.

I love being a Library Media Specialist because I love getting to talk books with kids, and learn about coding, research, digital citizenship, and all kinds of other things with students. The library is a place for exploration and belonging for all students. I am excited to get to know our BSE students and families better over the next few months!

Meet Peanut, the Therapy Dog! Meet Peanut, the Therapy Dog!

Peanut is a Certified Therapy Dog

Peanut has loved spending the first few days getting to know our BSE students. This is his 3rd year as a therapy animal. This week, your students have been learning that Peanut:

  • is a little bit different than a "service animal" as a therapy animal, but will still wear a vest to remind us that he is working.
  • is working at school, and not a pet, so we will treat him differently that we treat our pets at home.
  • is well-trained, but can also be a little sassy with Ms. Seaman sometimes.

We discussed the purpose of therapy animals is to provide comfort to people, and help people relax and feel calm and happy. At school, this can help with our big feelings, but also just help with us feeling comfortable and happy being at school. Students may pet and spend time with Peanut, but will never have to pet, touch, or spend time with him.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about Peanut or about animal assisted therapy, please let Ms. Seaman know (or you can contact Principal Lorentzson)

Checking Out and Caring For Books

  • Students will begin to check out book during their library lessons starting on August 27.
  • Students will start by checking out 1 book at a time. (older students will be able to check out 2 books each week starting in September).
  • Students should bring books back each week when they have library class on Tuesdays-Thursdays. If they would like to check the book out again for a second week, we will re-check the book out to them.
  • If your student has an overdue book, we will do our best to notify you. Please do your best to help them find and return the book. We appreciate your effort to help us keep our books circulating in our library!
