LOHS Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
To help keep our morning traffic flowing smoothly, please ensure your student exits the car promptly when you pull into the drop-off loop. The loop is designed for quick drop-off and pick-up only. If you need a few extra moments with your student, we kindly ask that you use the parking spaces located in the loop instead. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the line moving safely and efficiently for all families.
- LOHS drop off and pick up entrance for students is from SCRIPPS RD only.
- Please pull forward in the student drop-off loop as far as you can before having your student exit/enter the vehicle.
- DO NOT use the Staff Lot or Bus Loop for picking up or dropping off students.
- Students are NO longer allowed to park in the lower pool lot.
Parking Passes
This is a friendly reminder that any student driving to school must have a valid parking pass. Parking passes help us ensure that we know which vehicles belong on campus and keep our parking lot safe and organized.
Students who have not yet purchased a parking pass have already received a warning and were given five days to do so. For some students, Monday, September 8 will be the final day of that grace period. After this deadline, vehicles without parking passes may be towed.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to email Mr. Kiner or have your student stop by the Main Office.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our campus safe.
Summer Show - THIS WEEKEND
ATHLETICS
Home Football Game Reminders
Lake Orion High School varsity football hosts its first home game versus Stoney Creek at Dragon Stadium on Friday night. Friday night football games are a long-standing tradition in our community, and we are expecting a very large crowd. While we do hope for enjoyment, we also ask that you help keep this event safe and enjoyable for everyone.
The school administration at each middle and high school will speak to students during the school day, and we are sending this letter in hopes that you will discuss appropriate behavior at this event with your children.
For all spectators planning to attend this evening event, we wanted to share some other general reminders:
- We are encouraging everyone to purchase tickets ahead of time at gofan.co, to expedite entry at the gate.
- No re-entry to the stadium.
- Seniors 65 and over and children under 5 are free.
- All high school students – home and away – must have school ID for entry (showing PowerSchool schedule is allowed).
- Middle school and elementary-aged children are to be accompanied, supervised by, and seated with an adult. Our ticket workers will not allow unaccompanied students entry into the stadium.
- If there are issues with unaccompanied students gathering and causing unsafe issues, game personnel will contact the adults at the game to come and get their children.
- ADULTS: No backpacks or large bags; small purses/belt bags/diaper bags/camera bags are ok but are subject to search.
- STUDENTS: No bags of any kind for students (this includes small purses and belt bags i.e. Lululemon); only permitted for medical reasons and subject to search
- No outside food or beverages are allowed into the stadium. This includes bottles, cups, thermos containers, mugs, etc.
- No alcohol permitted anywhere on school property (including parking lots, athletic fields, etc.) at any time.
- Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited for anyone on any school campus.
We know that most of our spectators are well behaved and represent our school community in a way that makes us proud. That said, it only takes a small number of people to make a situation unsafe.
Thank you in advance for your time, effort, and assistance understanding these procedures. Should there be anything our administration can do to assist you or your child, please reach out.
Enjoy the festivities this evening and GO DRAGONS!

Contact Ms. Lee @ LOHS_NHS@lok12.org with any questions.
Device Protection/Insurance
The Lake Orion Community Schools Device Protection Program is open for registration. The device protection fee will cover any laptop for students in Grades 6-12. Protection coverage is available and strongly encouraged given that in-person students will be transporting the device to and from school each day. If choosing to not purchase or opt out of protection coverage, each student/family will be responsible for the full repair/replacement cost of any device issued and assigned.
Remember the devices that will be used for next school year will be brand new so any damaged devices repair costs will be higher than the last few years.
For more information, please head to District Assigned Device Information to read more information. If you have been participating the last few years, thank you for your partnership.
Free Meals in 2025-26
LOCS students will have free meals through September 30, 2025, the end of the state of Michigan's budget year.
Due to the lack of a School Aid Budget for the following year, there is no determination about meals beyond September 30. LOCS will share updated information when it is available.
Information about the Food Service department is available at LakeOrionSchools.org/FoodService.
Note: Despite the state's overall free meals uncertainty, all families who qualify economically for free and reduced lunch still should complete the form to receive additional services at reduced cost (pay to participate for athletics, holiday assistance, field trip assistance etc.) The forms are available online.
ParentSquare Information
Reminder, a message was sent to all LOCS Families in June announcing the new form of parent communication called ParentSquare. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with LOCS.
All district and school, grade level and classroom information will now be sent to your computer or phone via ParentSquare’s email and/or text message. Families are already enrolled in ParentSquare as their PowerSchool profiles are imported into the platform/
Here is a video for families to get started with ParentSquare. LOCS also has an informational page at LakeOrionSchools.org ParentSquare. Don't forget families do have the ability to tweak the platform to your desired communications.
- App -- For even more convenience, download the ParentSquare app (from the App Store or Google Play). While communications will still be received without the app as email and text messages, it is a significant asset for families.
- Notifications -- Families will be able to easily adjust their notification settings to determine when and if they receive updates (email, text, app). Messages are scheduled to arrive in the evening each day, unless the family changes its settings to receive instantly. Urgent/important messages will be pushed through instantly, even without family changes.
- Language – Families can adjust their desired language preferences.
Have questions once you log into ParentSquare? Click the question mark in the top right corner of the desktop version or the Help tab on the app (tap the triple bar icon at the top left) to find answers to most of your questions.
Additional questions can be directed to the LOCS Communications Department at communications@lok12.org.
School Dismissal Manager
Lake Orion High School utilizes School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program to initiate early student dismissals and report absence. SDM is an organized and efficient system that is convenient and minimizes disruptions to the learning environment. Using your desktop or smartphone browser, quickly and easily update your student's dismissal instructions, making it no longer necessary to call or send notes and emails to the school for dismissal changes.
School Dismissal Manager (SDM) is now live, check your email for important information and instructions.
Busing Information
Families can access bus routes for the 2025-2026 school year through the PowerSchool website starting Tuesday, August 26.
This feature is only accessible through the PowerSchool website, not the mobile app. Once you log in go the "Transportation Info" (see screenshot below). Special Requests, such as day care locations, have forms available on the LOCS Transportation site. Those need to be completed and emailed back to Pam King. If there is an alternate stop request form, please return it as soon as possible before school starts to ensure it is addressed appropriately and in a timely manner.
If there are questions, please contact Transportation Director Pam King via email (pamela.king@lok12.org).
Power Down to Power Up
Beginning in the fall of 2025, Lake Orion Community Schools will be implementing a "cell phone free" policy for all students during the school day. The district's goal with this policy is to minimize distractions in the classroom, encourage face-to-face interactions, and enhance overall student engagement in learning.
By eliminating the presence of personal electronic devices during the school day, Lake Orion Community Schools aims to foster a more focused and interactive educational environment. Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss this policy with their students and help ensure a smooth transition when the policy goes into effect.
Key Protocol Details
- Personal electronic devices must be stored out of sight during class periods.
- The term "device" generally includes cell phones, personal laptops, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and other wireless communication devices.
- The policy applies to all students, with legal exceptions for those covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Individualized Education Programs (IEP), Section 504 Plans, or students with documented medical needs.
- Click here for more details about the new policy.
SENIOR CLASS OF 2026 INFORMATION
Cap and Gown Orders
Jostens is our official provider of cap & gowns and has a variety of products to help you celebrate your senior year.
Please order online at www.jostens.com by Monday, September 29!
Jostens will be in school to assist with any orders on Thursday, September 25 during all lunches.
College and Career Corner!
Lake Orion High School's Career Center provides students families the resources necessary to ensure post secondary planning is current and seamless. Please visit this site often to see what is happening!
In the Career Center, students can ask questions about Xello and their EDPs, obtain Work Permits, and receive information about Service Hours.
For all New Dragons, service hours are submitted through an online platform, “x2VOL,” which enables students to enter service hours, look for volunteer opportunities, write a valid reflection and receive contact verification, all in one convenient location. Complete directions for creating an x2VOL account can be found on the school website at Service Learning - Lake Orion Community Schools (lakeorionschools.org) under the “How Do I Create my x2VOL Account”. There is also an x2VOL tutorial with everything students need to know about the online platform.
ALL summer service hours earned MUST be entered by September 30! There is no exception to this deadline.

OSTC Calendar
OSTC Students and Families,
If you are an Oakland Schools Technical Campus (OSTC) student, be advised you will have varying schedules on Wednesdays. It is important to review this information as to not miss classes in either location.
This schedule has been shared with our Northeast and Northwest campuses, as well as LOHS Staff. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselors or Mrs. Everitt.
LO-AM
It will be a couple weeks before our live newscast returns, but we (in partnership with Orion Neighborhood Television) are producing a live broadcast of this Friday's home football opener. And remember that a variety of other games/sports (including freshmen & JV) will also be live-streamed throughout the week via the automated cameras at various venues, both home and away. Our website will always have the direct link to the legitimate streaming site.
***There are a variety of scammers out there trying to get you to click on their fake link. WE are Lake Orion High School's broadcast program, and WE will always post the correct info!***
Immunizations for School
Whenever children are brought into group settings, there is a chance for diseases to spread. Children must follow the Michigan state vaccine laws to attend school. For more information about vaccines and waivers, please visit LOCS Central enrollment, or contact Mrs. Patricia Humes, the attendance secretary.
Why Daily Attendance Matters
Did you know...?
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
Who to contact if your child is not attending school?
