Masking Update

As the protocols for COVID-19 change, we understand that changes may raise confusion as to what is required and what is recommended. Bellflower USD is required to follow all Exposure Management Plan protocols developed by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health Order of the Health Officer. While the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines are less restrictive, we are required to follow our local health departments required guidelines.

Below are the current guidelines regarding masking:

All asymptomatic close contacts are not required to quarantine if they wear a mask around others indoors, except when eating or drinking, for 10 days after exposure. Close contacts must also test within 3-5 days since the last exposure and monitor symptoms for 10 days.

If you had COVID-19 in the past 90 days, you do not need to test unless you develop symptoms.

While it is strongly recommended for students to wear a mask if they leave isolation after Day 5, staff who meet the criteria to leave isolation, must wear a highly protective mask in the workplace around others, except when eating or drinking for 10 days after the positive test.

If your child is an asymptomatic close contact and you elect to not require your child to wear a mask around others indoors for 10 days or test within 3-5 days after a close contact exposure, your child may not attend school but does have the option to participate in independent study rather than receive absences until your child can return to school.

We appreciate everyone’s efforts in helping us keep our schools open for in-person learning.

ST Math (TK-6 grades)

We are excited to continue the ST Math program this year for our students in Transitional Kindergarten to 6th grade. Our official ST Math launch week starts on Monday, August 29th!

ST Math is a computerized math instructional program that requires students to use the part of the brain that understands how to visualize a step by step process and how to manipulate objects into different patterns. This is called spatial-temporal reasoning which develops the ability for students to solve mathematical problems and improves problem solving and organizational skills.

Students log in to ST Math through their Clever accounts. Once logged in, students will begin their mathematical journey with JiJi, the penguin in ST Math. Students help JiJi overcome obstacles by solving math puzzles. JiJi will cross the screen every time a student demonstrates understanding of a math concept, leading the student to the next challenging step in their mathematical journey!

Ask your child to tell you about JiJi and to demonstrate some puzzles this week. We’re looking forward to a great launch week and a year of mathematical learning with ST Math!
