Reminder!
Mrs. Turner, our amazing PE Specialist would like to remind all families to please help send their kids to school with proper PE shoes on their designated PE days. This is super important for many reasons. First it supports student safety, second it allows students to be ready to participate in the planned PE activity, and third it helps students be better prepared to meet their physical fitness goals.
Crocs, Slides, Sandals, Ugg Slippers, and Rainboots are not safe or appropriate footwear for PE.
If your child does not have the correct shoes or an extra pair of shoes for PE please email Mrs. Turner so she is aware as we may be able to help provide shoes for PE.
Thank you parents for helping your students put their best foot forward!
Mrs. Turner
October is National Bullying Prevention Month!
Dear Parents,
This month, all K-8 students will be taught about recognizing, refusing, and reporting possible Bullying behaviors. Student safety is our top priority. Every child has the right to feel safe in their learning environment. If a student is experiencing Bullying, then their learning environment is not safe for them and will ultimately impact their ability to learn. This is why our staff will be focusing on teaching students to know what to do and how to report any unsafe behaviors. Teachers will be using our Second Step Curriculum to teach these important skills.
Our School Counselor, Ms. Sallie will also be in classrooms to teach on this important topic. She will be giving the middle school students a Student Wellness Survey in order ask students directly if they are feeling safe at school. If any students indicate that they are not feeling safe for any reason, Ms. Sallie will be following up with them one on one to find out more. Any students that report bullying through this survey will be given a private appointment with Ms. Sallie. Communication to parents will follow if/when necessary.
While our Staff are focusing specifically on Bullying Behaviors this month, it is important to remember that not all mean behaviors are considered Bullying. We will also be teaching students about the differences between what bugging behaviors are, one-time mean moments, and two-sided conflict compared to repeated and intentional targeted bullying behaviors. A helpful flyer is attached to help guide families in these conversations.
We are asking parents and caregivers to please have conversations with your children about how they are feeling around their peers at school. If they report experiencing or witnessing ongoing mean behaviors, we hope that parents will be able to help students identify and name which category the situation falls under. If you believe that your child is experiencing any bullying behaviors, please reach out to your student's Teacher, School Counselor, or Principal as soon as possible. We are here to help. Together we can keep all our kids safe.

October Family Wellness Challenge
Slimming Down Screen Time
This month your Conway Wellness Committee is encouraging our families to "Slim Down on Screen Time." The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children are limited to 1 hour of screen time a day. This is a good challenge to do as a family as both parents and children can be spending more time than you think on phones, in front of screens, or other devices. It will be easier for children to limit their screen time if everyone in the home is making it a priority.
There are many health benefits from reducing screen time.
1. Better sleep quality
2. Reduces impulse snacking
3. More exercising and play outside
4. Improves mood and child behavior
5. Improves family bonding time
This month let's make this a family focus. Limit the phone time, video gaming, social media scrolling, tv watching, and Ipad time. Go for a walk as a family, play a board game, or read a good book instead! It will feel hard but your whole family will benefit together!
