Pride Preview Vol. 27
Week of Monday, Mar 2 - Friday, Mar 6, 2026.
Principal's Message
If there is anything as important as educating children, it is the role schools play in building community and bringing families together.
This past Thursday, we welcomed hundreds to campus to celebrate the culture and contributions of African Americans. Thank you for showing up and helping create a powerful experience for our students and families. A special thank you to the parents who volunteered โ many for the first time. These moments build pride, belonging, and connection, and they are part of what makes Lipscomb special.
As we celebrate, we must remain focused on our academic priorities. While there are bright spots from our latest SMCs, we still have gaps to close. This is a critical stretch of the year. Every grade level and every content area โ including non-tested subjects โ plays a vital role in accelerating students and ensuring they finish the year on grade level.
Nearly the same group of teachers led the work that elevated our accountability rating last year. The knowledge and skill are here. What will make the difference now is our discipline, focus, and daily commitment to doing our absolute best for kids.
Letโs stay united, stay urgent, and finish strong.

Math PLCs - Week of March 2
What to bring to Math PLC?
-District/Campus IPC
-High Leverage Standard for THIS Week
-Knowledge of standard, concepts, & academic vocabulary
-Activities/Tasks planned for students
PLC focus: Create standards-aligned lesson plan & exemplar that incorporates intentional checks for understanding & feedback for learning
CILT: High-Impact, Student-Centered Review
During this weekโs CILT session, our objective was to analyze and identify the essential components of high-impact, student-centered STAAR review instruction. In content teams, leaders studied 10-day plans aligned to each grade and course, grounding the what of instruction in frequency distributions (clusters, subclusters, genres, and/or SEs) to ensure time is prioritized based on impact. We also clarified the how of instruction through a student-centered lesson cycle that emphasizes thinking, discourse, and purposeful practice.
A key theme was recognizing the complexity of this time of year - where new learning, reteach, and review may be happening simultaneously. These structures must have a clear identity and purpose. Reteach is targeted and misconception-driven. Review is strategic and standards-based. New learning remains aligned and rigorous. Regardless of the structure, instruction must remain student-centered, engaging, and cognitively demanding. We should not see packets driving instruction or extended teacher lectures. Instead, we should see students explaining their reasoning, justifying responses, debating approaches, analyzing examples and non-examples, and engaging deeply with grade-level content.
Please find all supporting materials and planning resources here.
๐ฐ IB News You Can Use
In Week 2 of Unit #4 of the Inquiry Cycle, we move into Finding Out โ where students actively investigate, ask questions, gather information, and build background knowledge connected to the central idea. This is where curiosity deepens and thinking expands.
As you plan this week, consider:
-
How are students researching, exploring, and collecting evidence?
-
How are they documenting their thinking and new understandings?
Toddle Challenge ๐ฏ
Have students log into Toddle this week to complete a reflection, thinking routine, or short activity connected to your inquiry. Then, guide them in adding it to their student portfolio as evidence of their learning journey.

๐ง March IB Learner Profile: THINKERS
This month, we are spotlighting Thinkers โ students who use critical and creative thinking skills to analyze problems and take responsible action. As we continue deep inquiry and prepare students for assessments, letโs intentionally create opportunities for strategic thinking, productive struggle, and student-led problem solving.
How are we moving beyond recall and encouraging students to explain their reasoning, justify their thinking, and reflect on their strategies?

CULTURE
Celebrate Read Across America Week: March 2 - March 6, 2026
Spring Book Fair: March 2 - March 6, 2026
Spring Book Fair is upon us! It is scheduled for February 27th - March 6th around noonish time.
Our Virtual Book fair begins on February 27th and it will be live until March 12th. It is currently in preview mode for browsing and to set up e-wallets.
Teachers will sign up for Book Fair for the week of March 2-6 using this link , https://lipscomblibrary.youcanbook.me/ . You may sign up for preview visits and shopping visits.
Book Fair officially opens on February 27th, and some students may have time to preview the Book Fair prior to that during their rotations.
Outside of these times, students will be able to visit the library only if they have money to purchase.
Do not send students to the library without emailing or texting me first.
I will let you know if it is a good time or give you an alternative.
The book fair is not just a fun experience but also a valuable opportunity for our students to explore the world of financial literacy and making choices. By making sure they are aware of their cash balance, we empower them to shop with confidence and responsibility. Lower grade teachers in the past have created a list with the amount of money each student has and it has helped greatly.
This is the presentation I shared with the students through Google Classroom and posted in the Virtual Library. Please encourage your students to view the presentation and share it with the parents:
Book Fair Presentation Book Fair Flyer English Book Fair Flyer Spanish Book Fair Early Learners
I will have Teacher wish list buckets available in the library. Please come by to create one!
Teachers can set up e-wallets for their classrooms and share them with anyone who would like to donate. Click here for E-wallet information and here too.
Volunteers can sign up using this SignUp Genius link. Please help me by sharing it.
During the Book Fair period I will be in the library the whole time. If I must step out of the library, I will lock it. I am sorry if this causes any inconvenience.
Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions.
Thank you! Acevedo
