Academy Weekly Newsletter - 11/7
From The Academy at Sturgis Brown High School
Dear parents, guardians, and students,
**Every week a different Academy student will act as a student ambassador for the weekly newsletter. Their message will feature some information about the student, The Academy, and what happened throughout the week.**
Hello,
My name is Alan Davis. I enjoy going out and hanging out with my friends. I like to be outside doing something random. I like to hang out with my family when I can. I like to play video games when I have nothing to do. When I grow up, I either want to be in I.T. or an electrician because that has been my dream job for a bit.
This week in The Academy we are wrapping up the trimester by getting all of our work done. In Integrated Science we just got done with the unit motion and now we are on matter. Lastly, we are wrapping up our notebooks. For the people not done in science, we are getting packets to push up our grade. In American Government we are wrapping up our presentations for our final.
The Academy means a lot to me and has ever since I got into this program. It has taught me how to get my work done at a pace that I like. The Academy has helped me in so many ways like getting good grades and trying to stay on top of good grades. All the people here in The Academy are great. They are willing to help you if you ask. The Academy has pushed me to success ever since I joined The Academy. All the teachers are great and are willing to help you anytime if you ask.
English Notes by Ms. R
English students write a journal entry, practice a spelling word, and learn a new vocabulary word every day. They also practice grammar. This week students took a culminating vocabulary test, grammar test, and spelling test over all the words and skills that they had studied this trimester!
Students finished writing their five paragraph essay this week that compares three distinctly different dystopian stories: they compared Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, their independent reading book, and then a dystopian short story/novel/movie of their choice. This essay marks the last project of the trimester in English! It is very bittersweet to see this trimester come to an end; I have enjoyed every class period with this group!
If you would like to know what is coming up in Academy English, please feel free to review my trimester lesson plans. They can be found here.
Governement Notes by Mr. Fasso
I’m looking forward to starting Government B next trimester and hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break after all their hard work!
Principles of Algebra and Geometry by Mr. Leonhardt
This week we have identified 3D shapes and redrew the flat surfaces that make up the 3D shapes. We also learned to find the surface area of 3D figures.

Integrated Science by Mrs. Wheaton
The week of November 10 I will be helping students who did not meet the requirement to take the final to get to the requirement so that they can take the final and finish up.
Thank you for sharing your child with me this trimester; I truly enjoyed my time with him/her!
