Big Brothers Big Sisters

This year marks the launch of our new partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, bringing together 11th-grade students and 6th-grade students through a meaningful mentoring program.

The process began in early September when interested juniors attended an informational session with school counselor Mark Bohlen and Lindsey Baumer from Big Brothers Big Sisters. Students interested in serving as mentors, or "Bigs," completed applications and were matched with younger students, known as "Littles."

Sixth-grade participants were recommended by teachers, parents, and peers. Families were provided information about the program and invited to complete an application if interested. Following meetings with school counselor Ms. Baker and representatives from Big Brothers Big Sisters, mentor matches were finalized, and the excitement began.

The first Bigs and Littles gathering took place in late October, giving students the opportunity to get acquainted and begin building strong connections. Moving forward, the group will meet every two weeks for conversations, activities, and experiences designed to foster mentorship, friendship, and a sense of community.

One of the unique strengths of the program is the diverse group of high school mentors involved. Our Bigs represent a wide range of interests and activities, including music, student government, academics, athletics, and more. This variety gives sixth-grade students a well-rounded glimpse into the many opportunities that await them in high school while allowing them to connect with positive role models who share similar interests.

The program is already off to a fantastic start, and it has been exciting to watch these relationships begin to grow. Both the Bigs and Littles are thoroughly enjoying their time together, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact these connections will have throughout the year.

High School Club & Activity Fair

This week the high school has held its annual Club & Activity Fair, hosted by the ICC (Inter-Club Council). Each day, a different grade had the opportunity to visit booths by 19 different groups, including clubs, activities, athletics, and student organizations. Thank you to our students and staff for putting this great opportunity together for the school, and we can't wait to see all the exciting activities, events, and opportunities our students will create this year!

School Board Guests

At the school board meeting on Thursday, November 5th, we welcomed several student guests. Middle school students from Mrs. Law's class joined us for the Pledge and were able to speak about school as well as their experience with Special Olympics. Later in the meeting, high school seniors Grace Geissler and Gabriana Jimenez presented as the student representatives to inform the board and public about academics, activities, and athletics at the high school. Thank you to all of our students and their families for joining us!

Herbert D. Kruger Jr., Class of 1953

Herb Kruger was an integral part of the East Pennsboro family who passed away in 2007. He was a 1953 graduate of Enola High School and after graduation furthered his education by taking courses in Electronics, Microprocessors, and Customer Service. He was hired by United Telephone right out of high school and after three years, Herb found a new home at Pitney Bowes where he worked for 34 years as a Field Manager. Never one content to relax, Herb started his own company, Creative Computer Support.

Throughout his life, Herb was always involved in his community and this service took many forms. Whether he served as a scout master, a community board member or an organization participant, people could always count on Herb to be a leader. He was actively involved in the Enola Sportsmen Association, the American Legion Post 751, and a founding member of the East Pennsboro Education Association.

As a member of the Enola/East Pennsboro Alumni Association, Herb was instrumental in the creation and printing of the organization’s first Alumni Directory which helped grads find their peers and serves as a historical document of our former students. For this project, he was presented with a plaque by the Alumni Association for his efforts in creating and maintaining membership records.

Much of Herb’s retirement was devoted to the preservation and promotion of East Pennsboro’s history. This passion was fulfilled in 1999 when Herb established the Historical Society of East Pennsboro. He continued to support the Historical Society by writing publications and giving presentations in the community about local history. In addition to founding the Historical Society, Herb inspired others to volunteer their time to preserve the artifacts, photographs, records, and oral history of East Pennsboro. Thanks to his dedication, the Historical Society now has more than 600 members and these members will continue to contribute to the community long after Herb’s passing. Herb’s contributions were recognized with awards from the East Pennsboro Board of School Directors, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Cumberland County Historical Society, and Central Pennsylvania College presented him with an Honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Herb’s years of service to the community serve are an inspiration to the students and citizens of East Pennsboro.

Transportation Transportation

Buses 5, 9, & 11

Panther Families: If your student rides Bus 5, 9, or 11, you may have noticed some new faces behind the wheel recently. At this time, these routes have open driver positions, and our Transportation Department is working hard to ensure all students continue to get to and from school safely and on time. This may require some adjustments in driver assignments as we cover these routes.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate this staffing challenge. If you know someone who may be interested in joining our team as a bus driver, we encourage you to share the information below. Thank you for helping us keep our Panther students moving safely each day!
