SUA Newsletter
April 2023
Welcome
As we come to the end of another fantastic term here at SUA, we would like to share with you our most recent newsletter. Its jam-packed full of events that your children have experienced over the past few weeks. Team SUA have been all over the world, spoken to experts in their field across a range of industries and have been exposed to some brilliant careers events. A quick reminder that follows up from the letter that Mr Redman sent out on 30th March – students may opt to move into the summer uniform as the warmer weather starts to appear. All details are in the letter, or in your child’s planner. We would like to wish all of our families a fantastic, relaxing and reflective Easter break.
Team SUA
SUA is oversubscribed for 2023!
The number of first choices is testament to the work we are doing here, and we are pleased that word is spreading across the district.
Paris 2023
86 students and 8 staff started their voyage to Paris at 4:30am Monday morning. Our first day saw the kids experiencing the magic and excitement of Disneyland where students were able to see Cinderella’s castle, watch the parades, enjoy rides such as Hyperspace Mountain, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean and Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast - with one student riding 16 rides in one day! Finishing off the day with watching the 30th anniversary celebration fireworks. Our second day continued with the Disney magic, as the students headed into the Walt Disney Studios - embracing the Disney Hollywood feel! Here students braved the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, assembled in the Avengers Campus to ride Flight Force, and got their best chef whites on for Ratatouille: The Adventure. Thursday saw the students embrace French culture as we gave the students a walking tour of the French capital of Paris. Upon the River Seine, students were able to spot famous landmarks such as Musee d'Orsay, cathedral of Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower. We then finished the day with the students enjoying a game of bowling and trying their luck on the arcade machines before returning for our final evening dinner before our return journey on the Friday.
New York
Team SUA have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Liberty’ of a week in New York City.
We visited The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on Monday morning for a lesson on how America was formed and the immigrant journey. This was followed by an afternoon at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The events of this tragic day happened before our students were born, but they were incredibly moved by the stories and artefacts within the museum. Many students have said that this was the highlight of their visit to the city.
On Monday evening we enjoyed a meal at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, a traditional American diner where the serving staff are performers and will break into song at any moment. We even had a special rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for two of our students celebrating their birthday whilst away.
Tuesday morning, we joined our guided walking tour to take in the sights of the Big Apple. We visited; Grand Central Station, the New York Public Library, Rockefeller Center, St Patricks Cathedral, Trump Tower, Bryant Park and regrouped outside the Plaza hotel at the entrance to Central Park. This was followed by an evening meal at Bubba Gump shrimp before a night on Broadway. MJ-The Musical was an incredible show – you can’t ‘Beat It’.
On our final morning, we took in the sights from the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Center. It was a beautifully clear morning, allowing for an incredible view of the city. Students were then given free time to explore the world’s largest department store – Macy’s.
Our students were incredible and have had the experience of a life-time – and slightly aching legs.
