Next week will be an A week, and we will see 4th grade again!

Because we do not have school on Monday the 23rd, all Monday checkouts will be moved to Wednesday, same time.

We are cancelling library checkout the week of September 30 since we will only be at school Monday and Tuesday. Students are welcome to drop in throughout the day as needed for new books.

We will pick back up with a B week starting October 7.

A BookBreak title for grades 4-5 on November 5! "When a children's orchestra in Cateura, Paraguay, grows to have more students than instruments, music teacher Favio Chavez works with a brilliant local carpenter to create instruments out of garbage from the local landfill"--Provided by publisher. A great book to show determination and resiliency.

A heart-warming tale based on a true story that will spark discussion about war, individual potential, and kindness to animals. "In the midst of the Syrian Civil War, Alaa takes care of Aleppo's abandoned cats"--Provided by publisher.

Historical fiction picture book set during the Great Depression, particularly on how the "Migrant Mother" photo by Dorothea Lange became the face of that time. Wonderful story to represent change and one's journey.

Although the school year has already started, save this one for next year! A first day of school story told through the eyes of the school. Thanks Leah for the recommendation!

A short and sweet book where the pictures tell most of the story. Would be a great title to use when talking about water pollution and / or earth science.

Although not new, this is new to BEU. This classic tells the story of the author's grandfather's journey to America and the immigrant experience.

BEANSTACK! BEANSTACK!

This week in library, we introduced Beanstack to our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades and are using it as part of our Mark Twain Nominee Challenge with 4th and 5th grades.

If you are interested in having your classes use Beanstack for building reading stamina, introducing new genres or tracking independent reading, we want to show you how it works from your end! If there's a good time for you or your team, email Erika or Katie. We'll give you a tour and get you set up. Once you're comfortable with Beanstack, we can work with you to introduce it to your class!

Standard: I can use digital equipment effectively (iPad camera).

Jennifer and Mara are using the Everyone Can Create lessons from Apple Education to help students learn to utilize different editing features of their camera.

This is especially helpful when students need to mark up / edit photos for demonstrating learning.

Please let us know if you're interested in knowing more about incorporating the camera into your students' learning.
