Is Your Child a Picky Eater Is Your Child a Picky Eater

On December 4th from 5:30-6:30pm, The Family Place will be hosting a picky eating workshop on zoom. All VT and NH families are welcome to join.

In this workshop, parents will learn how to limit picky eating, help their children eat a wider variety of foods at meal and snack time and reduce stress when it comes to feeding their children. This class is open to parents of children of all ages, but will be particularly helpful for children age 1-7. Parents who have concerns about their children’s growth (overweight/underweight), frequency of bowel movements or bottle weaning challenges may find this workshop useful as well.

To register, families need to email our Parent Education Coordinator, Lori Stever: loris@the-family-place.org

Pneumonia cases (especially those caused by the mycoplasma bacteria; “walking pneumonia”) have increased across the country and the state of Vermont. In our school district, we have also noticed a rise in the number of cases being reported. Pneumonia is a respiratory infection caused by bacteria. The onset of symptoms is typically gradual and can include fever, cough, and a sore throat. The cough is usually a dry cough without phlegm and tends to slowly increase over a period of two to three weeks until it becomes almost constant. The bacteria are spread by inhaling respiratory droplets that are produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

As with other respiratory infections, some strategies to prevent the pneumonia bacteria from spreading include staying home when a person is feeling really ill or coughing persistently, increased handwashing, and covering coughs and sneezes. Any person experiencing symptoms should follow the school’s illness protocol and return criteria; contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns about this.

If your child becomes ill with a worsening or persistent cough, fever, and/or sore throat, please call your medical provider for guidance as many times antibiotics are needed to help shorten the illness and move toward recovery.

'Frosten Powers' Visits TWS 'Frosten Powers' Visits TWS

Through The Name a Snow Plow Program at the Department of Transportation (DOT), the students at TWS was able to name a plow from District 4 (White River Junction area)!!! Students generated a list of possible names and then a school-wide vote was taken and Frosten Powers was chosen. The plow, driver, and General Manager of District 4 visited TWS on November 9th and a good time was had by all. Thank you, DOT! The students had wonderful time exploring the truck and asking questions.
