RESPECT IS THE CHARACTER THEME FOR OCTOBER
RESPECT FAMILY CONNECTION FOR OCTOBER
October has been a busy and unbe-leaf-able month in preschool!
Our Tree Study is underway, and the children have been discovering all the amazing things trees have to offer! From trunks, branches, bark, and leaves to seeds, nuts, and fruit, our little learners have been exploring the many parts of trees through hands-on, sensory-rich activities that spark curiosity and encourage discovery.
With the beautiful fall weather, we’ve enjoyed spending lots of time outdoors on nature walks and exploring the world around us. The children collected leaves, twigs, conkers, and acorns, which we’ve used for a variety of fun crafts and learning activities. One of our favorite adventures was our apple-picking field trip to Andersen Farms! This special outing gave us the opportunity to build on our Tree Study as the students connected their classroom learning to the apples growing right on the trees. It was a wonderful way to bring learning to life while enjoying all the sights and experiences of autumn!
We also enjoyed our first Buddy Day of the school year! Our preschoolers partnered with their sixth-grade buddies to explore and celebrate October’s theme of Respect. It has been a fun-filled month of hands-on learning, outdoor adventures, new discoveries, and special connections!
FIRST GRADE ZOO VISIT
The first graders took a trip to the Turtle Back Zoo this week! The week before, the students learned about the parts of a map and created a map for the zoo. When they got to the zoo, they were able to use the zoo map to find animals from all different parts of the world, and learned all about them. If you see a first grader ask them about their favorite zoo animal!
Fall Happenings in the Art Room! 🎨🍂
Fall is in full swing in the art classroom! Students have been exploring the elements of art, including line, shape, and color, with a special focus on the warm, vibrant colors of autumn. Using a variety of art materials and techniques, students have been creating unique abstract artwork, colorful collages, and beautiful fall landscapes. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and artistic expression come to life!
A Special Note for Families: This year, every student has their own digital art portfolio on Artsonia, our online student art gallery! Parents and guardians can visit www.Artsonia.com to connect to their child's portfolio and enjoy their artistic creations throughout the school year. I look forward to sharing all the wonderful artwork our young artists create!
Happy Fall, and keep creating!
Respect Is Our Superpower!
Our theme this month is RESPECT! Throughout October, students are exploring both self-respect and respect for others through classroom lessons, small-group instruction, and individual Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities. These lessons help students recognize the importance of treating themselves and others with kindness, consideration, and understanding.
This week, Stillwater students participated in Buddy Days, with the theme “Respect Is My Superpower!” Older students partnered with younger students to explore what respect looks and sounds like and discover ways they can use respect as their own superpower to make our school a kinder, more inclusive, and welcoming place for everyone.
During Buddy Day discussions, students reflected on questions such as:
What does respect mean to you?
What does respect look and sound like at school?
How can we show respect to teachers, other adults, friends, and classmates?
How can we show respect when someone has a different idea or opinion?
What is one respectful thing you can do today?
Through these conversations and shared activities, students were reminded that respect is demonstrated through our words, actions, choices, and how we treat others every day. Even small acts of respect can make a big difference in helping everyone feel valued, included, and welcome at Stillwater School!
Remember: Respect is a superpower we can all use every day!

FIELD OF FLAGS FUNDRAISER
DAV’s Field of Flags empowers our community to set up fields of American flags, all to honor local veterans and raise critical funds to support our ill and injured heroes. Each flag represents one veteran – and our unwavering commitment to serving all veterans after they’ve sacrificed so much for our country. All donations raise critical funds to support DAV’s life-changing services for veterans in need and their families. This year, Stillwater school is coming together to honor the men and women who have served our country. Our goal is to raise $2,500 for disabled veterans and create a special display of 250 American flags—one flag for each year of our nation’s history.
Sponsor a flag for $10 and help us reach our goal of 250 flags. Together, our school community can honor 250 years of America while giving back to veterans who have sacrificed in service to our country. Please see the link below.
