Beep Beep! Coffee Time ☕ Beep Beep! Coffee Time ☕

Dear Ross Community,

Spring break is nearly upon us! I made the mistake of once mentioning that visiting California might be a nice spring break destination, and now both of my Roadrunners are convinced we are heading out shortly--that was my bad😣 I'd feel sorry for me if this weren't the most rookie parent mistake in the book (NEVER divulge hypothetical exciting plans) so I'm in the process of planning many cool outings for next week--feel free to email me great ideas to help bail me out of this entirely preventable predicament...

But what better way to drown my sorrows than by visiting Ross's super righteous coffee truck on Friday?? Join me at the District of Colombia coffee truck, which will be parked right outside school from 7:30-9:00 am before the Learning Celebrations. After spring break, we've got more excitement--first, we are counting the days until the Ross Happy Hour, on Saturday, April 25! Coming up next month we've got the Mother's/Father's Day Book Drive and Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week; all details below. And finally, don't forget to win your Roadrunner some fun prizes by getting them enrolled for next year!

We will see you Friday morning extra buzzed☕and ready to learn!

📚 Support Ross Readers – Join the Mother’s/Father’s Day Book Drive! 📚 📚 Support Ross Readers – Join the Mother’s/Father’s Day Book Drive! 📚

Our annual Book Drive is here, and we need your help! This year, the class that sponsors the most books will win a popsicle party at recess—so jump in and help your class win!

How to participate:

✅ Volunteer at a Book Drive table
Sign up your family to help out. Kids are *essential* to this fundraiser’s success (who can say no to a child asking for books?!) Every book sponsored during your shift earns 1 point for your child’s class.

✅ Sponsor books online here now through Sunday, May 3
Each $25 donation sponsors a new book for the Ross library and earns 1 point for your class.

Our goal: 250 new books for the 2026–27 school year!

In-Person Book Drive Dates & Locations:

  • Fri, May 1 – Ross playground, 8–9am & 3–4pm

  • Sat, May 2 – Safeway (17th St), 10am–4pm

  • Sun, May 3 – Little Flea Market (19th & Q), 9am–3pm

Book Dedications:

  • Stop by the Book Drive table to handwrite a dedication for your sponsored new books.

  • New this year: pick up a Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or general gift postcard to send to your honoree!

Questions? Contact Ross parent Kathy Crutcher at kathy@shoutmousepress.org.

Thank you for supporting Ross readers!

Learning Celebration and Free Coffee: This Friday, April 10 Learning Celebration and Free Coffee: This Friday, April 10

The PTA will host a coffee truck for parents, teachers, and administrators the morning of the upcoming Learning Celebration on Friday, April 10th. The District of Colombia (notice the spelling!) Coffee Truck will be parked outside of Ross on R Street from 7:30 am until the Learning Celebration begins at 9:00 am, and will offer free coffee from a menu including brewed coffee, hot tea, iced coffee, lattes, and cappuccinos. Please stop by and have a coffee on the PTA while mingling with other parents before the Learning Celebration begins. We’ll also be selling Ross merchandise, so please peruse the racks!

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week: May 11 to 15 Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week: May 11 to 15

Mark your calendar: Ross will celebrate teacher/staff appreciation week from May 11-15. Please note that this is a week later than it is marked nationally; the national week conflicts with a week of testing at Ross, so we'll celebrate it a week later, May 11-15. The Ross PTA is coordinating activities to celebrate our 39 remarkable teachers and staff (more information to follow). At any point in the week, students can bring in cards or small tokens of appreciation to any teachers and staff. (No nuts, please.) Would you like to lend a hand with appreciation week? Email PTApresident@rosselementary.org. Thank you!
