On October 22nd, students and families from Albert Schweitzer came out to the Oxford Valley Barnes and Noble to support our school. There were cupcakes to decorate, specialty Mummy Wrappaccinos at the cafe, and books, books, books to read! A special “Shout Out” to the guest readers Ms. Maurizi, Ms. D’Entremont, Ms. Flynn, and Dr. Orlando! A big thank you also to Ms. Agger and the 4th grade Chorus for singing festive Halloween songs to the audience.

Students made their way around the circle in front of Schweitzer on a perfect Wednesday afternoon to the sound of Halloween music. Please enjoy some highlights below.

Students in Kindergarten and First Grade were treated to a demonstration and lesson on Fire Safety from the Middletown Fire Marshall's Office. Visits from real fireman and a truck to tour were just part of the fun!

Students at Schweitzer Elementary are excited about getting stencils painted on their blacktop! Thank you to the facilities department and Albert Schweitzer PTO for supporting the project. In the middle picture below, Mr. Jones stopped by the Four Square game to check out the progress of the painting! Students will also be looking forward to a large checkerboard, Robot hopscotch, an agility circuit, and a track around the outside of the blacktop

Albert Schweitzer Elementary School is proud to have children’s author, Erin Teagan, visiting our students on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Ms. Teagan is the author of The Friendship Experiment, American Girl: Luciana, Luciana Braves the Deep, Luciana: Out of this World. This visit is being sponsored by our Albert Schweitzer PTO.

Erin Teagan, author of The Friendship Experiment and the Luciana book series from American Girl, has a Master of Science degree and worked in biochemistry labs for more than ten years before becoming a full-time writer. She uses many of her experiences from the lab in her books and loves sharing the best and most interesting (and most dangerous and disgusting) parts of science with kids.

Be sure to submit your order form and payment if you're interested in ordering her current books by Friday, November 16th. The flyer is attached to the email introducing the November newsletter.

Albert Schweitzer celebrated UNITY DAY on Thursday, November 8th! Unity Day is a day schools stand together against bullying and unite for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. On 11/8/18, the students and staff at Albert Schweitzer wore orange and learned about the types of bullying, the effects of bullying and how they can be an upstander at school and in the community.

The Peace Center in Langhorne runs Bully Prevention support groups for students and families. They are an excellent local resource that focuses on providing ways to stand up to bullying, gain confidence and self-esteem as well as problem solving skills and friendship skills.
