Attendance
Coming to school every day is one of the most important ways students can succeed. When students are present, they are able to take part in lessons, discussions, and activities that help learning make sense and build from day to day. Middle school is also a time when students learn responsibility and develop routines that prepare them for high school and the future. Being at school helps students feel connected to their teachers and friends and supports their confidence and well-being. Even missing two days a month can add up to a lot of lost learning over the year. We understand that illnesses and unexpected situations happen, and we appreciate families communicating with us so we can work together to support every child.
The state of Ohio defines a student as chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of the school year for any reason. According to CMS report card data, 12.8% of our students were considered chronically absent last year. At the end of Semester 1 this year, that number has decreased to 11.5%. We are encouraged by this improvement! If there are ways the school can support your family in helping your child attend school regularly, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Cell Phone Policy Reminder
Ohio law requires all schools to adopt a policy prohibiting student cell phone use during the instructional day by January 1, 2026. Our school is ahead of this deadline and already has a policy in place. As we begin Semester 2, please remind your student that cell phones must be turned off and stored in their locker or backpack for the entire school day, including lunch periods and class transitions.
Cell Phone Policy and Consequences
-
First Offense: The phone will be taken to the office. The student may pick it up at the end of the school day.
-
Second Offense: The phone will be taken to the office, and a parent or guardian must pick it up at the end of the day.
-
Third Offense: A parent or guardian must pick up the phone, and the student will be assigned a two-hour Saturday School.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a focused and productive learning environment.

Real Money, Real World
Real Money Real World is a program developed by the Ohio State University Extension. It allows middle school students to make life choices and get a taste of the real world.
The program is planned to simulate real life as closely as possible. Students are assigned a career and a number of children. They participate in four lessons to prepare them for the simulation.
On the day of the simulation, students visit booths that provide various services such as banking, groceries, transportation, child care, and utilities. With their monthly "paychecks" in hand, students are required to visit each station to purchase goods and services.
It's all make-believe, but it carries a serious message. Going through Real Money Real World and seeing for themselves how expensive life can be, makes a big impact with the students.
Band & Choir Winter Concerts
7/8 Choir
Our 7/8 choir brought musical sounds of the season to Countryview! Students also delivered cards from the art department and high school Trojan Time groups while visiting with residents.
MS Cheer
Trojan GRIT
We are continuing our work to help students learn and practice our core school expectations; Generosity, Respect, Integrity, and Thoughtfulness. Each Monday during Trojan Time, students take part in a Value Up lesson that focuses on understanding these values and what they look like in our school community.
We encourage you to ask your student about what they are learning during these lessons and how they can apply these values at home as well!
