Dive Into LCS
We’re looking forward to a great evening at our LCS Spring Open House: Dive Into LCS on April 23! If you know a family exploring school options, we’d love for you to invite them to join you. A personal invitation makes a meaningful impact, and there’s no better way to experience LCS than firsthand.
Don’t forget: LCS offers a $500 tuition credit for families who refer a new family! If you plan to attend with prospective families, please be sure to complete the RSVP and swim waiver. For questions, contact Mekeisha Black at mblack@lenawee.org.
Spring Sizing Event & Dress Code Updates
Mark your calendar for our Spring Sizing Event on Tuesday, May 5 from 11:00 am-7:00 pm! This is the perfect opportunity to get ready for next year’s dress code. Volunteers are needed - check the link below!
Looking ahead to the 26-27 school year, we will be expanding the Cougar Dress Code to include all students in PreK-10th grade. Additionally, dress code expectations for 11th and 12th grade students will be more clearly defined and consistently enforced. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students maintain a standard of dress that reflects respect, modesty, and LCS values.
Music Boosters Plant Sale
Mark your calendars for our upcoming Plant Sale on Friday, May 8 from 10:00 am-5:00 pm in the LCS Pavilion! This is a great opportunity to pick up beautiful plants while supporting our students.
Pre-orders will be accepted through April 17. Order forms are available any music student, at either school office, or in the attached document below. There will also be plenty of cash & carry options available the day of the sale for those who prefer to shop in person!
Volunteer for Graduation Preparations
As we prepare for graduation, we’re looking for a few helping hands to assist our event team with ironing linens. This simple task plays a meaningful role in making the evening feel special for our graduates and their families.
If you’re willing to help, please click the link below to sign up. Thank you for supporting this important celebration!
Elementary News
Elementary Chapel Update
This week in chapel, our 4th graders from Miss Van Dommelen’s class helped lead a meaningful time of learning centered on the Lord’s Prayer and how it applies to our everyday lives.
Students explored three key ideas: trusting God daily, practicing forgiveness, and asking God for help in making wise choices. When we pray, “Give us this day our daily bread,” we are reminded to rely on God for our needs each day (Matthew 6:11). We also reflected on forgiveness - “forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Matthew 6:12) - and how showing grace to others reflects Christ’s love (Ephesians 4:32). Finally, students learned how to ask God for strength to resist temptation and choose what is right (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Family Connection Ideas:
Ask your child: What is something you can trust God for today?
Talk about a time when it was hard to forgive - what helped?
Discuss what it looks like to make a good choice when something feels tempting
We encourage you to pray the Lord’s Prayer together this week and talk about what each part means for your family’s daily walk with Christ.
Book Fair
Get ready for summer reading with our upcoming book fair! Choose from a great selection of books, as well as fun crafts and science kits. Be sure to stop by the library April 20-April 24!
Grandparents Day
We are looking forward to celebrating Grandparents Day on April 24! This special morning is reserved just for grandparents, or a special family member if your student’s grandparents are unable to attend.
The morning will begin with Coffee & Muffins from the Merillat Room, which can be taken into The Centre Auditorium. Doors open at 8:00 am. The program begins at 8:45 am, featuring performances from PreK-5th grade students. The Elementary Choir will also perform, followed by a special preview of Newsies.
After the program, guests are invited to visit classrooms and enjoy several activities around campus, including the Book Fair, Cougar Den, Plant Sale table, and photo opportunities. If grandparents choose to sign a student out from the classroom, please note that students will not be able to return to class afterward.
We are grateful for the opportunity to honor the important role grandparents play in our students’ lives and look forward to a joyful morning together!
NWEA & Benchmark Testing
From April 20 through May 8, elementary students will test in reading and math using school devices, while secondary students will test in reading, language arts, and math on their personal computers. These assessments measure student growth and compare progress to peers nationwide.
There is no study guide for these tests. Encourage your child to do their best, get a good night’s sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast. If a test is missed, make-up sessions will be available.
Results will be sent home after testing. Please reach out to Anne McEldowney at amceldowney@lenawee.org with any questions.
Secondary News
Secondary Chapel Update
This week in Secondary Chapel, Pastor Matt Jones from Trees Church (Coldwater, MI) and The Ark (Flint, MI) spoke on “The Power Of The Word Of God.” He reminded students that God’s Word is like a sword of truth in our minds, cutting through confusion, dividing our thoughts, and exposing the enemy’s lies.
Drawing from Hebrews 4:12, we were challenged to remember that Scripture is living and active, able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Because of this, we are called to continually go to God’s Word as our guide that shapes and transforms our thinking, anchors our identity in Christ, and leads us in truth each day.
Drabbles - No Small Task
Our juniors recently took on the creative challenge of writing drabbles, a unique form of storytelling with very specific rules. Each piece must be exactly 100 words, deliver an emotional impact, and tell a complete story with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
This exercise stretched students to think critically about word choice, pacing, and meaning, all while expressing powerful ideas in a limited space. We’d like to recognize our top writers: Judah Penney, Carter Chadek, Jenna Gradeless, and Drew Kirkendall. Their work stood out in creativity, depth, and ability to move readers in just one hundred words.
Please note that the attached drabbles explore a range of meaningful and sometimes heavy themes, and some pieces may evoke strong emotions. Out of respect for student privacy, all names have been removed before sharing.
Spanish Club Hoodie Drive
The LCS Spanish Club is hosting its annual hoodie drive to support migrant field workers in Lenawee County. We are collecting new or gently used adult-size hoodies (S-L) from March 30-April 17.
Secondary students who donate may participate in a sweatpants day on April 17. For questions, please contact Señora Wood at jwood@lenawee.org.
