Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day
Dear Parent or Caregiver,
We are celebrating Walk to School Day on Wednesday October 7th. You and your children are encouraged to participate in this fun filled event at our school!
We will celebrate with a walk around the track/playground beginning at 7:25 am. Joining us this year will be our school superintendent Dr. Brian Davis, the Oshkosh Police and Fire Departments, the Winnebago County Sherriff’s department, North High School’s mascot, Sparty the Spartan, members from various UW Oshkosh athletic teams, and many more. International Walk to School Day energizes parents and children, reminding them of the simple joy of walking to school. It also serves as an opportunity to focus on the importance of physical activity, safety, air quality and building bicycle and pedestrian friendly neighborhoods. Safe Routes to School is a local organization that donates prizes to school to pass out to students during the school day. Parents are welcome to join our walk. Come join us for some music, walking and more.
What is Walk to School Day?
Walk to School Day is a global event that involves thousands of schools in more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. This event is providing positive impacts in communities by: creating safer improved streets, healthier active lifestyles, and reducing traffic congestion around schools.
What is Safe Routes to School?
The goal of the Regional Safe Routes to School Program is to make bicycling and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age. To achieve this goal, East Central Wisconsin serves schools in eight counties. http://eastcentralsrts.org/
Safety Tips to Remember:
Always use sidewalks or paths where available, if there are no sidewalks or paths always walk facing traffic as far left as possible.
Make eye contact with drivers; do not assume that drivers see you.
Wear bright colored or reflective clothing which makes you more visible to drivers.
Stop. Look left, right, and left again before crossing and always use marked crosswalks and crossing guards when possible.
To learn more about our Walk to School Day event, or If you have any questions, please contact Scott Johanknecht, Principal (920) 424-0170.

Lunch Menus
Please note:
We will no longer have paper lunch menus provided here at school. You are free to download the attached menu here. You can also download the Nutrislice App to have the daily menu accessible on your phone. Check out our Food Service Page for more information.
Picture Day!
Pictures will start at 8:00am. We will try our best to get student pictures taken before they have gym and/or recess. If you would like to take advantage of free shipping to the school, you will need to use the links on the form below to order your pictures before picture day. Pictures are delivered to the school about 3 weeks after picture day. Photos can be purchased at any time during the school year and students without a purchase will be given a "proof" sheet that will include instructions on how to order photos if you decide to get them at a later date.
Consistent with driver's licenses, state ID's and passports - subjects may not wear any hat / hood / head covering / costume or alter their face in any way, shape or form (religious and cultural head coverings / medical exceptions are made).

In literacy, we’ll strengthen our early reading and writing skills, while our Five Senses unit will have us excitedly using our senses to discover more about the world around us. In math, we’ll build our number skills through counting, comparing, and representing numbers. We’ll also learn how to work and play together in Social Studies and explore wild weather in Science. Free/Reduces Lunch Application
Even though lunch and breakfast are free for all students, families should still fill out the application if they think they would qualify.
Oaklawn is part of a district wide grant to provide free breakfast and lunch to each student. Students are able to enter the school at 7:15am and get breakfast in the cafeteria. We still need families to fill out the Free/Reduced Meals application if they think they qualify. Families who qualify will get assistance for their child's field trips and sometimes state funding, grant money, etc use the statistics for free/reduced student counts. Food Department has sent letters to those families who have qualified for Free/Reduced Meals. If you didn’t get a letter and you think your family would qualify please complete the Free/Reduced Application form. The application is located in your IC Parent Portal under the “More” tab at the bottom then click on “Meal Benefits”. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Schiefelbein in the office. Link
