From the Principal's Desk

Hello Little Viking Families,

Happy Valentine's Day! This week our school focused on the character strength of love and how we can love one another and show that appreciation for others throughout our day. It's always nice to take a moment and reflect on the positive things in our life. I love our students, staff and families. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's life each day at school!

There are a few important updates below that do require parent attention:

1) 5 Essentials Survey - Please complete the 5Essentials Survey to share feedback about our school. The survey is anonymous, takes only a few minutes, and helps us improve teaching and learning for all students. You can complete the survey HERE. Thank you!

2) Erin's Law - House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. Please see more information about our Erin's Law presentations below and link to an Opt OUT form if you would like to excise your child from this safety presentation.

3) Kindergarten "Signing" Day! - If you have a student turning 5 by Sept. 1st - please join us for Kindergarten Signing day on March 12th. See the flyer below for more details. Register prior to attending OR bring your documents and we can help you get registered for Kindergarten! All students who register prior to May 1st will get a free Tshirt! RSVP's are encouraged!

Thank you,

-Mrs. Scanlan

Erin's Law Presentation

Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, author, and motivational speaker, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:

• Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches

• Safety rules at home and school

• Saying “NO”

• Safe/Unsafe Secrets

• It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her

• Telling a trusted adult

Mr. Pacini and his team, will be presenting at our schools on Friday, March 6. Each grade level will participate in an assembly for approximately 30 minutes. The content can be previewed here: https://www.childhoodvictories.com/offers/qmjwe83e/checkout

If you would like to excuse your child from this presentation please fill out the opt OUT form below.

Weather Chart Weather Chart

Please remember to dress your students for the weather! We go outside whenever possible even in the cold and snow! The district uses the child care weather watch chart below when determining if the weather is too severe for outdoor play. Any time the temperature and wind falls into the red, students will have indoor recess. Yellow we still go outside but the duration of the time spent outside is monitored. And we always go out when in the green zone!

Whenever it is actively raining, students will stay inside for recess and play.

We’ve recently seen a few cases of the “stomach bug” at school, and handwashing is one of the best ways to help stop the spread. Please remind your child to wash their hands with soap and water before eating, after using the bathroom, and after coughing or sneezing. These simple habits make a big difference in keeping our school community healthy and feeling their best.

Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

Standard Response Protocol

Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.

In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.

Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
