Forest Playground Update (3.28.25)

Forest PlaygroundUpdate (3.28.25)

Dear Forest Families,

I hope that everyone is enjoying their spring break. I am reaching out with an update regarding our school's playground. This past July the Board of Education approved the installation of inclusive playground equipment at Forest and Cumberland Elementary Schools that best provide accessibility and activities for all students. In addition the Board supported the removal of all wood chips in favor of a rubberized surface.

Knowing that the summer construction season would not work in our favor, the district scheduled installation for spring break, understanding that the playgrounds would likely not be finished by the time students and staff return. I am pleased to let you know that work began this past Monday. As you can imagine, this is an excellent enhancement to our current play space. Although the crews have made great progress, I want to let you know that the project is weather dependent. The weather cooperated until today, when thunderstorms in the morning delayed the start of the work day.

When we return to school next week, the playground will not be available to students until all work is complete. The playground will be accessible once the rubberized surfaces have been poured and have had time to cure. I will work with our teachers and support staff to provide creative alternatives for recess, while also ensuring the safety of our students.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I look forward to seeing all of our students and families when we return from break.

Sincerely,

Ms. Soike
