Veterans Day Assembly

Please fill out this form if you would like to honor a veteran at Davis' Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 11th at 2:00. We invite our veterans to come to Davis at 1:45 pm to enjoy a school assembly and a small reception afterwards with their families. We need your help! We would love to invite as many veterans as we can. Forms will be accepted until Wednesday, November 5th.

In addition, your child has been given a small Veteran Poster that you can complete if you have a family member or loved one who is a Veteran (or currently serving). You may attach a photo or have your child draw a picture of the Veteran, and you may make additional copies of the paper if you wish to honor more than one Veteran. When your child returns the paper to school, we will decorate our hallways with these heroes!

CogAT Testing for Third and Fifth Grade Students

Dear Third and Fifth Grade Parents and Guardians,

We want to inform you that your child will be participating in Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) testing during the following dates:

Testing Dates: Wednesday, November 12th through Friday, November 14th

Make-up Testing: The week of November 17th

About the Test

The CogAT is a digital test that consists of three sections measuring different reasoning abilities:

  • Verbal reasoning

  • Quantitative reasoning

  • Nonverbal reasoning

The test is composed of nine 10-minute sections for a total of 90 minutes of testing time. These sections will be administered in a manner that is comfortable and appropriate for your child.

Purpose of the CogAT

The Cognitive Abilities Test measures reasoning abilities that facilitate learning and problem-solving. The information gathered from CogAT scores may be used to:

  • Adapt instruction and programs to meet the individual needs and abilities of students

  • Provide insight into a student's readiness for advanced academic programming, such as the Academically Talented program

If you have any questions about the CogAT testing, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.

Thank you for your continued support of your child's education.

Sincerely,

Principal Gina Shaw

Pumpkin Literary Characters - Painted by Davis Staff

Davis Staff Celebrated the Season, as well as our love of literature, by decorating pumpkins as characters from popular children's books! The creativity and talent shown by our staff was pretty amazing, and students were able to vote on their favorite pumpkin. Please take a look below and see if you recognize stories that you know and love!

Field Trip Fun! Field Trip Fun!

3rd Graders enjoyed a theatrical production last week at the McAninch Artst Center. This fun musical is based on the books Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; and Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty. In the plot of the story, the characters are faced with the ultimate test of their problem-solving skills that can only be conquered with teamwork. Davis 3rd Graders had a wonderful time seeing these story books come to life!

5th Graders went to LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve on Monday. The students were continuing their learning about how experiencing nature changes the way we think about it. They participated in games and explorations about habitats and migrations, went on a hike, and helped assess the water quality of the pond. Students had a blast and learned a lot about how to safely experience nature.
