New Family Orientation

This orientation is designed for any family who is new to the district or new to Red Mill. It would also be appropriate for Kindergarten families who were unable to attend Camp Kindergarten. We will begin by meeting as an entire group in the cafeteria. While there, we will be sharing general information related to Red Mill and the West Shore School District as a whole. Following the informational session, a brief guided tour will be provided to families.

We invite both parents/guardians and their respective student(s) to attend this event. This event was not intended to replace the Back to School Nights. We encourage our new families to also attend the Back-to-School Nights as they will provide specific, detailed information regarding your student(s) classroom.

Upon arrival for this event, please come through the main front doors into the lobby. Staff will be there to greet you and point you in the right direction.

Back-to-school Nights

Both of these evenings are designed to give parents/guardians valuable information related to the upcoming school year. The informational sessions and evening as a whole are geared towards adults only. Teachers will have presentations prepared to update and inform parents/guardians of what can be expected this coming year. There will be no general assembly. We ask that when you arrive at 6:00, you head directly to your student’s classroom (with the exception of kindergarten & 4th grade who will do a whole grade presentation in the cafeteria). We will make multiple announcements throughout the evening and set up rotations so that parents/guardians with students in multiple classrooms can attend each of the informational sessions. Upon arrival for this event, please come through the main front doors into the lobby. Staff will be there to greet you and point you in the right direction.

Parking at Red Mill Parking at Red Mill

To help ensure the safety of our students and maintain smooth arrival and dismissal procedures, we kindly ask all families to park only in marked spaces when dropping off or picking up students. Using designated spots helps keep traffic flowing efficiently and ensures that all children can enter and exit the building safely. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to student safety!

Breakfast and Lunch Breakfast and Lunch

Free Breakfast

For the 2025-26 school year, ALL West Shore School District schools plan to serve one free breakfast to every student, regardless of their family's economic status. This means EVERY student in the West Shore School District will receive free breakfast. Any additional servings beyond one free breakfast per day will require payment.

Student Lunch Cost

Elementary (Primary and Intermediate) Lunch - $3.40

Depositing Money Into Student Accounts

Families have the option of adding funds to their child's account online through LINQ Connect or with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to “West Shore Cafeteria Fund” and sent to school in an envelope with the student’s name, ID number, and the amount of the deposit written on the front.

Free/Reduced Lunch

If your family is not notified of direct certification prior to the start of the school year and your household is struggling financially, it will be necessary to complete a free/reduced price meal application to secure free/reduced price lunches. Please complete this form and return it to Red Mill or WSSD Administration Center. To qualify for assistance, students must have a signed and approved form on file. Families are encouraged to submit their application within the first two weeks of school, to ensure adequate time for the District to process their application.

Parents who believe their child who would qualify for may also apply through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Access to Social Services (COMPASS). You may find links to those pages here.

Additional food service information and meal menus can be found here.

Teacher Assignments & Transportation Information

Please visit PowerSchool to view student schedules, transportation information, and other student information. Additionally, families should have received a personalized email with important information specific to their child. The goal is to have all registered student schedules finalized at this time; however, adjustments may need to take place prior to opening day. Although rare, this may result in changes to the assigned teacher and/or the time of day the class occurs.

*Kindergarten families received their PowerSchool log-in information at Camp Kindergarten. Should anyone be in need of their log-in information, please do not hesitate to contact our office for further assistance.

Preparing For the First Day of School

As the first day of school rapidly approaches, we often field questions related to what students need to bring to school on the first day. We provide all necessary materials and resources for students, up to and including: pencils, pencil boxes, storage and organizational resources, an ipad and ipad protector, etc.). One item that we ask students to bring on the first day from home is a backpack that is big and sturdy enough to store an ipad and a few books. If you need assistance in obtaining a bookbag, please do not hesitate to contact our school office. We would be more than happy to provide one to you and your student.

Welcome to Red Mill, Mr. Marshall!

From Mr. Marshall:

I hope you’re enjoying a wonderful summer! My name is Adam Marshall, and I am truly honored to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal at Red Mill Elementary. Becoming a Red Mill Dolphin is a privilege, and I’m excited to join a school community known for its strong values, dedicated staff, and commitment to student success.

Over the past three years, I’ve served as Assistant Principal at both Highland and Fishing Creek Elementary in the West Shore School District. Before that, I taught third, fourth, and most recently, kindergarten in the Northern York County School District. These experiences have shaped my belief that every child deserves to be challenged, supported, and inspired to become the very best version of themselves.

I am especially excited to partner with you, our Red Mill families, as we work together to support the growth and success of every student. I believe that strong family-school relationships are essential to a thriving school community. By working collaboratively, communicating openly, and keeping students at the center of all we do, I’m confident we can help every child reach their fullest potential.

I look forward to meeting you and your children soon. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything. Thank you for the warm welcome!

Go Dolphins!

Mr. Marshall will be joining our administrative team!

Welcome to Red Mill, Mrs. Rudy!

From Mrs. Rudy:

Hello! My name is Mackenzie Rudy, and I’m excited to be working at Red Mill this year. I have a strong passion for education and a deep commitment to helping students grow academically and personally.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Reading, with a literacy specialist certification, from Shippensburg University.

This is my 19th year teaching. Throughout my career, I’ve taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade as a classroom teacher. For the past 10 years, I have been working as a literacy specialist, supporting students and teachers in developing strong reading and writing skills. I truly enjoy creating a positive and engaging classroom environment.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I’m married and have two children; we love doing activities together, such as hiking, traveling, and watching movies. In my personal time, I also enjoy reading and listening to music.

I’m looking forward to a great school year filled with learning, growth, and memorable moments!

Mrs. Rudy will be joining our reading department!
