This year's Ice Cream Social is this Thursday, September 25th from 6-7:30 pm on the Broadway school playground, and all PreK-8th grade families are invited! The evening will begin with a short caregiver meeting to share important updates and highlight upcoming events, and families will be able to cool off with ice creams sundaes. It’s the perfect chance to connect with fellow families and celebrate the start of the year together.

We are still in need of donations of volunteers and ice cream toppings! Please check out our sign-up sheet to see how you can contribute. Donations may be dropped off at school this week or brought directly to the playground if you arrive by 6 pm.

A big thank you to Ruby Jean's Juicery for their generous ice cream donation this year!

We'll see you on Thursday!

All families are invited to stop by the monthly food pantry this Thursday from 3:30-6 pm in the Broadway lobby! Both non-perishable and fresh items will be able on a first-come, first-served basis. Please reach out to Ms. Jessie with any questions!

From September 15th through October 15th, our school is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! This is a chance to recognize the rich traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx cultures, which are an important
part of our school community. Students will explore music, art, food, and stories in class. Families can join the fun at home by cooking a favorite dish, reading a story by a Latino author, or listening to music in Spanish. There are many resources online, including the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Latino's Hispanic Heritage Month's webpage.

We are excited to collaborate with KidSight’s vision screening program to provide free vision screenings for our elementary students. Grades Kindergarten through 4th grade will be screened on Monday, September 29th and Tuesday, September 30th. Each screening only lasts about 30 seconds, and all participating students will receive a detailed letter explaining the results and any recommended next steps with available resources. We will be sending more information home with your student this week, so please check their folders and backpacks. If you do not want your student to be screened, please sign and return the KidSight letter to opt out or contact Johanna Chambers, Director of Student Support, at johanna.chambers@cwckansascity.org.

If your child is in grades 5th through 8th and you have concerns about their vision, you may request a screening by contacting Johanna Chambers at the email address above.

On photo day, October 7th, students are not required to wear their school uniform, and we look forward to everyone dressed up in their favorite outfits!

Don't forget to check the Family Dashboard for the full calendar, including upcoming field trips!
