Thomas W. Hamilton Elementary
September 15, 2024
This week our community was complete when we welcomed our Kindergarten friends as well as our new assistant principal, Christina Devonis. We held our Open House where many families attended and had time to chat with staff, students, and other families. We are looking forward to a fabulous year ahead!
New Information
Morning Drop Off
There are a lot of moving parts as part of our morning drop off. To alleviate any issues and keep safety at the forefront, we have designed a continuous loop to ensure all students are being safely transported to school. Please refer to this document for a map and rules regarding drop off.
YOU CANNOT PARK-If you are coming down the driveway, you need to enter the loop and wait until you have pulled up to the sidewalk. You must stay in your car and let one of the staff members assist students to exit onto the sidewalk. Kids should only be exiting from the passenger side.
If you want to park, it must be on Union Street and then you may walk down the driveway with your child.
Tavern in the Square Fundraiser
For the month of August, our neighbors at Tavern in the Square were accepting monetary donations for Hamilton. We were surprised and excited to find this out and share via our Hamilton Happenings page. We just got the final total and are so grateful for the $5,523 that were raised and donated this week. These funds will go towards many initiatives happening here at Hamilton that will benefit staff and students.
Social Studies and Science
Social Studies and Science are valuable and essential content areas that are part of all students' education in Grades K-5. We are responsible for covering Massachusetts Learning Standards in these subject areas in all grades, and all teachers plan and implement engaging lessons that meet the Learning Standards for their grade level. The Mass Department of Elementary of Secondary Education has really helpful guides that explain these standards for families: Mass Learning Standards for Families
Weymouth Food Pantry Backpack Program
The Weymouth Food Pantry has partnered with Weymouth Public Schools to continue the Backpack Program, which provides food to participating students weekly to meet their nutritional needs over the weekend. Bags include items such as juice boxes, granola bars, mac & cheese cups, goldfish crackers, and milk. The menu will vary weekly.
School staff and volunteers will prepare a bag of food for each child and connect it to the student by Friday afternoon. These bags are free, open to all students, and sponsored by the Weymouth Food Pantry.
Please complete the Google Form below by Friday, 9/27/24 if your child would benefit from additional food over the weekends. All families are required to re-sign up annually to update and confirm any allergies and dietary needs.
Weymouth residents are also encouraged to check out WFP’s pop-up pantry schedule here: Weymouth Food Pantry Calendar
SEPAC
Weymouth's Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is an all-volunteer town-wide group of parents and caregivers of students with special education disabilities. SEPAC has joined forces with Town Wide Parent Council (TWPC) to promote equal access to educational opportunities, exchange ideas, and share solutions to both complex and challenging issues facing all children in our schools and community.

Bus Dismissal Feed
X (formerly Twitter) is having some issues, so we have moved to posting our bus dismissal times on Facebook. You do not need a Facebook account to see these posts. Please click here each afternoon to know when each bus has left Hamilton for the day.
Attendance Call Procedures
Please refer to our absence call procedure for when your child is not attending school.
Attendance Counts
Having students at school and on time daily is a major part of having a successful school year both academically and socially emotionally. Please send your child to school every day, unless they have any of the prohibited symptoms. Let us know how we can help if attendance is a concern for your family.
Lunch & Breakfast
Students may bring their lunch from home or choose from the daily menu. Breakfast will be grab and go and lunch will have hot and cold options. All students will have access to meals at no cost.
Bus Expectations
We want to remind families that riding the bus is a privilege and that safety for all students is extremely important. We will continue to review behavior expectations and adjust individual plans as necessary so that all students are having a safe and enjoyable transportation experience.
PAW Slips
Throughout the school day, students are being recognized for representing ROAR (Respect. Ownership. Achievement. Responsibility) by staff members when they are seen demonstrating these traits. Students are given a paw slip that explains what they were seen doing. This slip is given to the front office, and the student is given a sticker so the whole school community can see that a PAW was earned. Every Friday, random student PAW slips will be pulled so we can recognize students who have been ROARing across Hamilton. Be sure to ask your student how they are ROARing at home and school, particularly with our focus this month on helping others.
Afternoon Parking
As a reminder, if you will be using the playground while waiting for your child or staying past dismissal time for any reason, you need to be parking in the row closest to the swings. This is for the safety of all students as the other cars are released. Also, please be aware of the cones that are placed after dismissal so that Champions can utilize the outdoor space. Do not drive through this area when the cones are out.
Morning Drop Off
Please refer to our Morning Drop-Off procedure as a reminder of our protocol. You must stay in your car at all times. Please have your child(ren) exit only on the passenger side (moving car seats if necessary) and follow the vehicle in front of you as you exit.

Parent Council
A large part of what makes our school community such a great place to be is the strong Parent Council organization. This is for every Hamilton parent to get involved in, whether on a small or large scale, working to bring experiences for our students that go above and beyond general school offerings.
Please consider lending a hand to this dedicated organization.
Monthly meetings are held via Zoom. Please join us whenever it fits in your schedule. No need to even turn your camera on! Each meeting we will discuss ongoing initiatives and upcoming events.
