This is also a good reminder that our dedicated bus drivers will be hauling precious cargo very soon! When the stop sign is flashing, don't be passing!

NEW KIDS CLUB DIRECTOR

Help us welcome a familiar face as our new Pointer Kids Club Director!

Tracy Wiegel will be leading our before and after school care program, as well as continuing in her role as Elementary Instructional Assistant.

"When I heard that the Pointer Kids Club Director position was opening up, I felt it would be a good fit for me. I have been working for the past 10 years as a special education assistant at the Mineral Point Elementary School. I previously owned Lil’ Wonders Child Care Center for the past 18 years and felt that my experience would be beneficial in running this program. Knowing many of the students in the elementary school system will help make this a smooth transition. I look forward to making this a fun and special time for the students," said Weigel.

Erika Brunson

A big congrats to Erika Brunson, Middle/High School Counselor, who is one of this year's grant recipients from the Mineral Point Excellence in Education Foundation! Her "Future Forward" project received $800 from the Roger & Mary Ivey Excellence in Education Endowment Fund.

"Through various career activities, including our annual fall Career Day, students will explore potential career paths, connect with professionals, and identify the intersection of their skills and interests to find good-fit career pathways. By bringing career events directly to our school, we remove barriers and ensure all students have the opportunity to explore career paths, connect with professionals, and gain valuable insights into the skills and education needed for future success," said Brunson.

Allison Keller

A big congrats to Allison Keller, Elementary Music Teacher, who is one of this year's grant recipients from the Mineral Point Excellence in Education Foundation! Her "Music for All" project received $800 from the Excellence in Education Endowment Fund.

"The primary goal of this project is to make the barred percussion instruments accessible to all students. By removing the barrier of how the instruments are stored, students will be able to use the instruments more often. The instruments are there for students to play. I want students to feel that the music room is their space–that they are safe and can be playful, creative, and vulnerable together. The stands will also allow students to access the curriculum by removing barriers for students with limited mobility," said Keller.

Kris McCoy

A big congrats to Kris McCoy, Middle/High School Librarian, who is one of this year's grant recipients from the Mineral Point Excellence in Education Foundation! Her "Raising the Anxious Generation" project received $1200 from the Excellence in Education Endowment Fund.

"This project will benefit all of the students in our district and community as families, teachers, school staff, and other community members who work with children learn more about the risks of overuse of digital devices, social media, gaming, etc., and learn more about how the transition from a play-based childhood to a phone-based childhood has had a detrimental effect on the social, emotional, and cognitive development of young people. We will be bringing in Jake Boll, an ed tech specialist from CESA 5 to facilitate a conversation around this topic to learn more about what we can do as individuals and a community to best support our students," said McCoy.
