We REACH for Excellence! We REACH for Excellence!

Color Run Color Run

🌟 Thank You, Nighthawk Nation! 🌟

A huge THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who helped make our Color Run a success! This was a wonderful PTA fundraiser, and we are excited to share that the money raised will go right back into supporting our amazing students.

We also want to give a special shoutout to our PTA for all of their hard work and dedication—events like this would not be possible without them.

Families, if you’d like to support our PTA and school, there are many ways to get involved—whether it’s volunteering at events, joining PTA, or simply attending meetings to share your ideas. Every little bit makes a big difference for our students!

Thank you again for your continued support—together we are Nighthawk Strong! 💙

Fall Conferences Fall Conferences

Parent–Teacher Conferences are coming up October 27–31. During this week, school will be on a half-day schedule, and students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM each day.

Teachers will be reaching out to schedule a time to meet with you and discuss your child’s progress, strengths, and goals for the year. Conferences are an important opportunity to connect and partner together in supporting your child’s success.

Thank you for making time to attend—we look forward to seeing you!

Lost and Found and Labeling Clothes Lost and Found and Labeling Clothes

As the weather gets colder, we want to remind families to please label your student’s hats, gloves, coats, and sweatshirts with their name. This simple step helps us return lost items quickly and prevents our Lost and Found from overflowing.

We do not have enough space to hold all unclaimed clothing, and an excessive amount of items can create safety concerns in our building. To manage this, we donate unclaimed Lost and Found items to Goodwill at the end of each month. Before we donate, we will send a ParentSquare reminder so families have a chance to check for missing items.

Attendance Attendance

At Nob Hill, we know that strong attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. Every school day counts—students who attend regularly build stronger academic skills, develop positive friendships, and are more engaged in their learning.

Our school-wide goal is for 95% of our students to be in school, all day, every day, as long as they are healthy. Right now, we are at 94% attendance, which is close—but we know we can do even better together.

Thank you for helping your student get to school on time each day. Consistent attendance helps set them up for success now and in the future.

Understanding Our Reading Assessment Results:

Our recent reading assessments provide valuable insights into student progress and help us target our support effectively. Currently, 29% of our students are meeting grade-level reading benchmarks, with an additional 21% performing above expectations. However, we recognize that 50% of our students need additional support to reach proficiency, with 33% performing well below benchmark and 17% below benchmark.

How We're Supporting Reading Growth at School:

Targeted Intervention Programs - We're implementing small-group reading interventions during the school day, focusing on foundational skills like phonics, fluency, and comprehension strategies. Students receiving support work with specialized reading teachers using evidence-based programs tailored to their specific needs.

Data-Driven Instruction - Our teachers regularly assess student progress and adjust instruction based on individual student data. This allows us to identify students who need additional support quickly and modify teaching strategies to better meet diverse learning needs.

Professional Development Focus - Our teaching staff is participating in ongoing training on the science of reading, including structured literacy approaches and multi-sensory teaching methods. This ensures all teachers have the tools to support struggling readers effectively.

Supporting Reading Success at Home:

Daily Reading Routine - Establish a consistent 15-20 minute daily reading time where your child reads aloud to you or you read together. This builds fluency, vocabulary, and creates positive associations with reading. Choose books slightly below your child's independent reading level to build confidence.

Rich Conversations About Books - Ask open-ended questions about stories you read together, such as "What do you think will happen next?" or "How do you think the character felt?" These discussions develop critical thinking and comprehension skills that transfer to independent reading.

Environmental Print and Real-World Reading - Encourage your child to read signs, menus, recipes, and instructions during daily activities. This shows reading as a practical, meaningful skill and provides authentic practice opportunities outside of formal learning time.

Library Visits and Book Access - Regular library visits expose children to diverse books and reading materials. Let your child choose books that interest them, even if they seem too easy or focus on topics like sports or graphic novels - engagement is key to developing reading habits.

October Family Culture & Climate Survey October Family Culture & Climate Survey

During the month of October, we will be inviting our families to participate in a Culture and Climate Survey through CEE. Your feedback is very important to us, as it helps guide our efforts to make our school community even stronger.

The survey will be accessible through a single website link, which we will be sending to you soon in upcoming newsletters and family communications. We encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey. If you haven’t had the chance before or need assistance, we will also provide time for families to complete the survey during conferences.

The survey will close on October 31 at 11:59 PM. Results from the survey will be available in February, and they will help us continue to improve the experience for our students, families, and staff.
