BES Gives Back this December!
Dear BES Families,
I hope you had a wonderful break with your family! We only have 3 weeks until our winter break and those weeks are going to be FULL! Our focus at school will be on finishing up projects, completing our end of semester screenings, and looking at our schoolwide data of where our students are academically and what we need to do to meet our goals as a class, a grade, and as a school. We will be celebrating too this month! We will be recognizing our classes with great attendance during the month of November! We will be celebrating end of semester and quarter milestones - completing AR goals, improving multiplication facts, and for being great kids with our weekly shout-outs and our Thumbs Up Thursday fun!
We do have a lot of attendance notices going out. This is only to inform you of how many absences your children have so far this school year. If you receive a letter, your child has met a threshold for us notifying you. If needed, I will reach out separately to schedule an appointment so we can plan together. However, most all of our absences are excused and the email is simply to inform. I have more information below regarding attendance.
Some corrections were made to the 'Sounds of the Season' dates and locations. Please check the updated version below carefully. This year, due to parking and seats, we ask that you and your family enter through the main doors of LHS and exit out the activity entrance to the parking lot once the concert is over. We ask you take pictures before and to leave quickly after the concert so we can prepare for the next group coming. We will have additional staff available to point the way and assist! We are so thankful to the LHS staff, especially the maintenance staff, in helping us have those concerts in their beautiful auditorium!
This month our social worker, Mrs. McIntire, and our STEM teacher, Mrs. Jamison, have teamed up to give back. Please see our weekly challenges below in how you and your family can join us in giving back. Also below, we have information for families needing assistance during this time. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you or someone you know could benefit from our resources.
We can't wait to see everyone back tomorrow!!

Week-By-Week How You Can Help!
Week 1 - Help fill holiday baskets for local seniors! Each year, individuals in our community work to bless seniors in local assisted living facilities with holiday baskets. Let's show our love and support for them by bringing items that will be included in their baskets. Our student ambassadors have chosen the following items for us to collect & contribute this year ~ individually wrapped bars of soap, chapstick or lip balm, hard candy - butterscotch or lifesavers.
Week 2- Penny Wars! BES, Kansas sending love and support to BES, North Carolina!
All proceeds from this week's penny wars will go directly to Banner Elk Elementary PTO to benefit their students and families. Banner Elk, NC is where our building manager, Kelly's son attends college, which is how we became aware of BES and how the community was impacted. From BES principal, Justin Carver - "Our small rural county was devastated by Helene. Our students were out of school for 37 days. Personally, my family was out of power for 19 days. The town of BE had no working water or sewer for 35 days after the storm. We had many families lose everything and almost 50 percent of our students displaced due to water- sewer- power or road access. However- we are rebuilding- recovering and coming back so STRONG because of the love and support of fellow people like you all. Thanks again."
Week 3 - Stock the shelves of our local food pantry! Agape food pantry is an invaluable resource for many in our community, particularly during the holiday season. Join us as we work to stock their shelves with food! Please limit your donations to the following items - Canned chicken/tuna, canned MEAL soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and jelly.

Seasonal Support Newsletter
Believe it or not, cold weather and the holiday season are fast approaching. We wanted to share with you some free resources for winter coats, Thanksgiving meal baskets and Christmas gifts (Christmas gift program is for Louisburg children birth to 18). There are deadlines to each that, again, as far away as they seem, will be here in no time. The added expense of winter coats and holiday costs can be a heavy burden. If your family could benefit from a little extra support to ease that burden, then we hope these resources will do just that! Please see our newsletter to learn about some wonderful resources! Attendance and School Calendars
Receive an Attendance Email from School?
If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to
miss fewer days.
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!

We do not sell our yearbooks during enrollment - other buildings do. So you have not yet purchased a yearbook - now is the time!!! Order it and save the email they send to you so you can remember you bought it in February!
