Principal's Message
Hiteon Community,
We kicked off this month with a very successful Fun Run! Our students gave it their all, and our adults joined in the spirit with inflatable costumes that truly put the FUN in Fun Run! Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome our newest families at Kindergarten Orientation next Wednesday. If you have neighbors with kindergarten-age children, please encourage them to attend. This evening is an important opportunity to help families get registered, learn more about Hiteon, and also help the district determine our kindergarten enrollment and staffing for next year. I also want to extend my sincere thanks to all of the families who joined us for conferences, as well as for the thoughtful treats in the staff room and the dinner provided on Wednesday evening, your support means so much. Our community is strong because of the partnership between families and teachers, and we are truly grateful for each of you. Wishing you a wonderful month of May!

In the Door by 7:44
Why 7:44? Because at 7:45 am, the learning fun begins! Being in the classroom by 7:44 means your child is ready to roll when the bell rings. Every Minute Matters! Arrive on time = start the day with a smile. No rushing, no missing morning fun. Builds habits that help kids shine for a lifetime.
Tips to Beat the Clock: Pick out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Set an earlier “leave the house” time than you think. Try to be on campus by 7:35 am for a calm start.
Please note that the doors will close at 7:45 a.m., and students arriving after this time will be counted as tardy. Let’s make mornings smooth and start every day strong!

Safe Routes to School Parent Survey
Beaverton Safe Routes to School Parent Surveys
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parents’ and guardians’ input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following links will take you to a district survey and will be combined with classroom tallies to give us a good picture of how students get to and from schools throughout the district.
The district survey will be open for responses for approximately four weeks from May 1st until May 31st. We appreciate your assistance providing us information to make the Safe Routes to School program effective for all Beaverton School District students.

Arrival & Dismissal Traffic Flow
We want to remind everyone of the importance to follow the BSD traffic flow map for Hiteon's arrival and dismissal procedure. For those parents that do car drop off and pick up the safety of our students, parents and community is of upmost importance. We want to assure that traffic flows as smooth as possible in our parking lot as well as on our neighboring streets.
Please remember that the ONLY EXIT from the Hiteon parking lot is the Brockman Driveway and to ALWAYS ONLY TURN RIGHT out of the parking lot. DO NOT EXIT LEFT. THERE IS A NO LEFT TURN SIGN. This will assure that the traffic does not backup into the parking lot.

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that there’s a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesn’t occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
If you haven't done your background check to volunteer at Hiteon, you can start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
