“Foster Growth by Challenging Critical Thinkers to Take Risks,
Honor Differences & Care for Others”
USING DATA TO SET GOALS
Our commitment to individualized instruction is at the heart of everything we do at Gold Rush. Here’s a closer look at how we tailor our teaching to meet each student’s unique needs.
Individualized Instruction and Data-Driven Support
Gold Rush takes pride in providing personalized coaching and support for every student. During the independent portions of our daily literacy and math workshops, teachers use data to ensure each student is appropriately challenged and supported. Teachers use both formal and informal assessments to gain a comprehensive understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for growth.
Assessments and Personalized Goals
Students in grades K-5 are assessed three times a year using a standardized assessment called I Ready. This state-approved reading and math assessment helps teachers determine each student’s progress and identify their instructional needs. In addition to I Ready, teachers conduct one-on-one reading assessments to evaluate students' fluency and comprehension.
By analyzing these various assessments, our teachers are able to set personalized goals for each student and select materials that align with their individual needs. This ensures that every child receives the appropriate level of challenge and support to help them grow.
Upcoming Fall Conferences
Our teachers will complete most assessments within the week. We will share the results with you during the fall conferences. These meetings are a great opportunity for us to discuss your child’s progress, review their goals and outline the steps we will take to support their continued growth.
READY TO DASH ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6
Our much loved fun run, known as The Digger Dash, is next Friday! We hope you are able to come and cheer us on! We are still looking for parent volunteers. Click here to sign up today!
Digger Dash envelopes went home on Monday. As you are aware, we are excited to replace the furniture in our shared learning spaces with 100% of our donations. Please see the Digger Dash flier that came home with your child to see how you can make a Digger Dash donation. Please remember that sponsors need to be in by September 6th to count towards the classes that will win a pizza party. The final deadline for all donations is September 30th.
Every donation counts and we greatly appreciate your support.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES AT WORK
Our school operates as a Professional Learning Community (PLC). A PLC is a way of collaborating that allows us to support and challenge every student.
What is a Professional Learning Community (PLC)?
A PLC is a collaborative team of educators dedicated to continuously improving their practice and ensuring the highest level of learning for all students. In a PLC, teachers work together routinely to address four key questions:
What do we want students to be able to do?
This question focuses on establishing clear, measurable learning goals for students. How do we know students have met the target?
Here, teachers determine how they will assess whether students have achieved the set goals.Which students are in need of intervention and what does an aligned intervention look like?
This involves identifying students who may require additional support and designing targeted interventions to help them succeed.Which students are in need of enrichment and what does high-quality enrichment look like?
This question addresses the needs of students who are ready for more advanced challenges and the types of enrichment activities that will benefit them.
How We Implement PLCs at Gold Rush
At Gold Rush, our grade-level teams meet weekly to answer these critical questions. By using both the grade-level curriculum and students' assessment data, teachers collaboratively plan for both individual students and small groups. This approach ensures that each student receives tailored instruction that meets their specific needs—whether they require extra support or additional challenges.
Our PLCs are focused on student learning and results, with the ultimate goal of enhancing educational outcomes for every child. By working together and leveraging data-driven insights, our educators are committed to providing a dynamic and responsive learning environment.
PARENT FOR SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE
Our School Accountability Committee (SAC), which is composed of three parents, school administrators, one teacher and a community representative, provides feedback regarding our school goals and priorities. The committee meets the third Thursday of each month for approximately one hour. While the number of voting SAC positions are limited according to the bylaws, all parents are welcome to attend meetings. Click here for additional information.
We are currently seeking two voting parent to serve on our committee. If you are interested please contact Jenny Brown by Thursday, September 5. This is a great way to get involved in the school.
ONLINE LEARNING RESOURCES
All Gold Rush students have their own device provided by the school that is used to enhance direct instruction. Kindergarten and first grade students have their own ipad and third through fifth graders have chrome books. Please know that technology is only used to enhance learning and it never replaces instruction from the teacher.
Over the course of the year students will access a variety of instructional websites and apps. These tools are not provided by the district, however, each resource has been vetted by our teachers and evaluated according to district guidelines. Each of these resources offers students the opportunity to share their knowledge and understanding of a topic in a variety of ways.
Click here for a list of resources used at GRE. To opt your child OUT of any of these resources please print this letter, circle the title(s) to be opted out of, sign and return the form to your student’s teacher. Please fill out one form for each child. By not returning this letter, you are agreeing to the use of these tools and/or the account creation for your child. Please note that your child is not required to use any of these resources.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Instructional Technology Specialist, Mrs. Fleet.
