Happy February, Grand Prairie Families! It’s hard to believe we’re already entering the second half of the school year. Here’s hoping the coldest days of winter are behind us—and that the groundhog delivers some good news on February 2nd!

This month, we’re excited to celebrate Black History Month while continuing our Disney-themed learning. We will be spotlighting Floyd Norman, Disney’s first African American animator, who helped bring Disney magic to life by working on classic films like Sleeping Beauty and creating drawings for some of our most beloved characters. Students will also have the exciting opportunity to learn how to draw a Disney character through a guided, step-by-step drawing lesson!

FastBridge reports for first and second graders will be sent home on Friday, February 6th. Please check your child's backpack for this important information.

We have some exciting events coming up this month! On Thursday, February 4th, we will celebrate our 100th Day of School—marking 100 days of learning and growing together. Students are welcome to wear their 100th Day shirts, bring in collections of 100 items, and write about what they would do with $100. We kindly ask families to avoid costumes portraying students as 100 years old or bringing props such as walkers or canes.

Friendship Parties will take place on Thursday, February 12th for our preschool students (AM: 9:45–10:45 a.m. | PM: 1:25–2:25 p.m.) and on Friday, February 13th for our K–2 students from 10:00–10:50 a.m.

Please note that February 13th is an early dismissal day. Car riders and walkers will be dismissed at approximately 11:10 a.m. to allow buses to depart by 11:25 a.m. Preschool will not be in session on February 13th.

There will be no school on Monday, February 19th for President’s Day. We hope that families enjoy the extended weekend!

As you know, on Monday, January 26th, Grand Prairie kicked off our “Stack the Pantry” Drive, which will run through Wednesday, February 26th. The Frankfort Food Pantry has shared that, while they have been fortunate to receive support from several recent food drives, there is still a need for the following items: Kleenex, paper towels, paper plates, toilet paper, shaving cream, dish soap, and 13-gallon garbage bags. As always, we are grateful for the generosity of our families and truly appreciate your continued support of our community drives. Thank you!

The Cup Stacking Tournament is back! Hosted by Mrs. Borden and Mr. Vandenberg, this exciting event is sure to be a fan favorite once again. The 1st Grade Cup Stacking Tournament will take place on Tuesday, February 24th, followed by the 2nd Grade Cup Stacking Tournament on Wednesday, February 25th. Both tournaments will run from 3:30–4:30 p.m. We hope to see many of our students join in the fun, challenge their skills, and cheer on their friends. Additional information is coming soon!

And finally… it’s time to waddle into learning! Kindergarten students will be sharing their penguin presentations at the end of February. Purple Kindergarten will take the stage on Wednesday, February 25th, followed by Green Kindergarten on Thursday, February 26th, and Gold Kindergarten on Friday, February 27th. All presentations will begin at 1:20 p.m. in each student’s classroom. Classroom teachers will be sending home specific details soon. We can’t wait to see our little penguin's shine!

We hope everyone stays safe and warm!

Pease join us for the upcoming Tiger University on

Wednesday, February 18th from 5:30-6:30 at Chelsea.

Second Grade Second Grade

February is going to be a fun and meaningful month in second grade! We will kick off the month by celebrating kindness and friendship with our Friendship Parties on February 13th, where students will enjoy sharing and caring with classmates. In reading, we will travel around the world through fairy tales from different cultures and have fun comparing them to familiar stories we already love. As we honor Black History Month, students will research and write biographies about important people, learning how they made a difference in the world. In math, we will continue building strong number skills as we begin paving the road to multiplication by exploring repeated addition. We are excited for a month filled with learning, growth, and lots of smiles!

First Grade First Grade

First grade has been very busy learning and having fun at the same time! In Math, we have been learning about measurement, using different sized paper clips and centimeter cubes. In writing, we have been writing our “All About” books. In ELA, we have been comparing and contrasting the adventures and experiences of different fairy tale stories. We are also identifying who is telling each story in various parts of the texts. We will now be learning about Black History Month and reading all kinds of incredible books. Ask your child about Secret Stories “Mommy e”, and they can show you some great phonics skills! This month we will be celebrating the 100th day of school, as well as having our Valentine’s parties. We are looking forward to February!

Kindergarten Kindergarten

Kindergarten celebrated our 100th day of school by hosting a “100th Day Fashion Show”. To participate the students decorated t-shirts with 100 items and then wore them to school on our 100th day. Many decorated their shirts by using pom-poms, buttons, googly eyes, sequins, and even stickers. They were so creative!

Kindergarten also spent the month of February learning about penguins and celebrated their Penguin Unit with a presentation party. At the party, the students presented their research projects to their parents and then led them to various penguin centers to show them all the hands-on research we did as a class! The research was super impressive!

Preschool Preschool

The students in Project Begin have been learning all about boxes. They have been collecting boxes of all shapes and sizes and learning about size and shape. They have also been exploring what they can build out of boxes! So much “out of the box” thinking! Students in Early Childhood have been studying snow, snowflakes, snowmen, and all things cold! (Fitting for the COLD weather we’ve been having!). Using themes like arctic animals helps our staff play to the interests of our little learners as they embed more challenging concepts and vocabulary. The winter months are a great time to use tactile and sensory play for your little preschooler at home! Using shaving cream in the bathtub, bringing a bin of snow inside to paint or play with, or even just making an at-home sensory box with dry beans or pasta can give your little one some much needed tactile play when they are stuck inside in the cold!

Math Team Math Team

Welcome to Math Time—where numbers make more sense, mistakes are welcome, and confidence grows faster than a skip-count by 5s! Think of it as math with training wheels—still moving forward, just with a little extra balance.

What We’re Working On 🧠✏️

  • Number sense & place value
  • Addition and subtraction strategies
  • Fact fluency (without the stress!)
  • Problem-solving and math talk

We use hands-on activities, games, visuals, videos, music, and lots of encouragement—because math is better when it’s fun!!!

How You Can Help at Home 🏠

  • Ask your child to explain how they solved a problem
  • Play simple math games (dice, cards, board games)
  • Celebrate effort, not just correct answers
