Let Grow Project Spotlight!
When adults let go....children step up!
Independence is something that grows over time. Our hope is that through the month of October your child spreads their wings just a little bit further. This month is a great time for your child's Let Grow project to expand and deepen. If your child made their own lunch once see if they would like to do it more days of the week. If your child dug a hole in the backyard, see if they want to dig it even deeper or plant some seeds in the hole :) Take a look at these kiddos who have worked so hard in September to do hard things! And keep sending me pictures and your thoughts about this great Let Grow effort at Washington.
Silas McKuin
Silas made brownies from scratch! After his Bibby helped him decide on a recipe, he did all the steps on his own, including weighing out the chocolate on a scale and putting them carefully in the oven. What a delicious Let Grow project!
Tig Newhall-Staires
Tig's parents expressed a very important aspect of the Let Grow Project- growth being more about trying than succeeding. For two nights, Tig practiced painting her nails. The first night she was SO upset with the results but she came right back the next night to try again. Her family is so proud of her efforts! This is just one of her many Let Grow projects-she is also walking into school all by herself. I think she is learning vicariously by watching her brother Gus take the lead :)
Abi Smith
Watch out Master Chef Junior Abi is becoming an expert with a real knife. It takes courage, skills and the willingness of her mom and dad to give her to time to complete the task. Abi cut all the okra needed for dinner. I love to hear a parent perspective. We all have to slow down just a bit for growth to happen.
Neva Hiatt
Neva has decided to help her classmates with their problems and big feelings. She took it upon herself to create a therapy notebook with strategies and games to use during her "sessions" with her friends. Neva lives her life in forward motion :)
Norah Humphreys
Norah made corn muffins for her families dinner! Nothing tastes better than something a child has made by themselves. Norah was so proud of these muffins! It is not easy to prepare something homemade. It takes focus and determination!
Harris Hinterthuer
Harris has been working hard on his let grow project. Harris worked on a cardboard robot for a few days. 100% on his own. 100% planning, designing, cutting, building, problem-solving. Mom says his vision and execution is something no one else in the house could do. Just to visualize it, conceptualize it and then actually build it is quite impressive. This may be the beginning of a beautiful engineering future :)
Ella Rose Sinohui
Ella Rose made smoothies for her family during the weekend. Mom said they were delicious and she was so proud of her effort! The noise of the blender made her nervous but she found a pair of noise canceling headphones her dad uses for work and got right back to her task at hand. I love to hear about the obstacles that kids face and how they work through them in the end!
Henry Kinsey
Henry has been working on his egg making skills. This past month he focused on learning to cook an egg for himself. He practiced regularly and got to a point where he was able to do it completely on his own! He even got a chance to try it out on our propane camp stove one weekend while we were traveling. I can't wait to have him over for our Sunday brunch :)
Elizabeth Brandon
Elizabeth has been busy with multiple Let Grow projects. She has taken this challenge seriously! She packed all the snack bags for her soccer team last week and watered her mom's entire garden! It is great to hear that a Let Grow project is impacting so many people-an entire soccer team gets delish snacks and a mom can just sit back and watch the kids do the hard stuff-Love this!
