Superintendent's Friday Message

Opening Message From Dr. Galusi
Dear MPS Families and Caregivers,
A three day weekend awaits us, providing our students and staff members a deserved opportunity to rest before finishing the last three weeks of school. It's been a year full of growth, student achievement and service learning, both inside and outside the classroom. One of our many organizations dedicated to community service and impact, the Medford Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (CCSR) club, is thrilled to share that their Project Portfolio for the 2024/25 school year is now available to view!
Across each of our school communities, CCSR students came together to complete over 50 projects helping those in need. Whether it was raising awareness for breast cancer, helping animals at local shelters, or donating money for those affected by the California wildfires (just to name a few), our students did a fantastic job in carrying out the organization's mission of making the world a better place. These acts of service, no matter how big or small, bring a level warmth and heart we can always use more of.
In honor of Memorial Day, schools will be closed for all students and staff this upcoming Monday, May 26. Later in today's memo, I will highlight how our school and greater Medford communities are honoring the brave men and women who we have lost.
Sincerely,
Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi

Over $900k Awarded at MHS Scholarship Night
This past Wednesday, the School Counseling Department hosted our annual Scholarship Night where Seniors on the Class of 2025 received recognition for their scholarship awards. Over $900,000 worth of scholarships were awarded to our students, an incredible figure that will go a long way to supporting their goals and dreams. Two of our graduating Seniors, Sasha Silva and Anne Dups, were even awarded scholarships to cover four full years of college tuition.
The evening was filled with Medford pride as 31 different local families, organizations and businesses presented scholarships to our deserving students. Congratulations to all those who were awarded a scholarship, and thank you to everyone who donated to support our Medford students!
Student Athletes Succeeding On & Off the Field
A rainy spring can't stop the brilliance of our student athletes across our middle and high schools!
Well done to our High School Boys and Girls lacrosse teams for winning the Greater Boston League Regular Season Championship undefeated! Our boys finished a perfect 8-0 in league play, while our girls won 12 games from 12. Additionally, we are thrilled for our boys and girls Middle School Track and Field athletes who also earned a GBL championship. Thank you for representing Medford so strongly, and we can't wait to pack the sidelines during your postseason journeys.
Additionally, earlier this month eight members in the Class of 2025 formally signed their national letter of intent this month to play a sport at the collegiate level. Congratulations to our three football players, three track and field athletes and two lacrosse players who will be continuing their athletic journeys. Your passion, dedication and willingness to work alongside your teammates and coaches are just a few of the many reasons you've earned this opportunity. Visit Here to see more.
Medford Celebrates Memorial Day
To honor the brave men and women who we've lost, the City of Medford will be holding a Memorial Day Ceremony at Oak Grove Cemetery on Monday, May 26 beginning at 10 a.m.
In anticipation of this community event, last Saturday McGlynn Middle School students, staff and members of the community joined Medford’s Post 45 American Legion to decorate the graves of the fallen soldiers. The McGlynn's community involvement was organized by MMS ELA teacher Mr. Michael Cremin, a Navy veteran himself who has led this effort for the past 20 years. The morning served as a special time for those who attended, helping them capture the true meaning of the holiday.
To further honor our military members who have passed, our McGlynn Elementary School will be holding an outdoor concert from 10-11 a.m. next Wednesday, May 28. MES parents and caregivers are invited to attend the performance held on the outdoor stage at the new playground.
Athletic Director Bobby Maloney Announces Retirement
Congratulations to Medford Public Schools Athletic Director Bobby Maloney, who after more than 30 years with us announced this week he will be retiring from his role leading our athletic department this September. Bobby has been instrumental in the growth of our MPS athletics program, but most importantly established a culture of respect, teamwork and friendship among our student athletes and families. Our Mustang athletic program wouldn't be where it is today without his guidance and leadership.
Similar to how we've conducted recent searches for other Administrative positions, we are seeking input from a variety of stakeholders, including student athletes, staff, administrators and community members, as we look to fill the Athletic Director position. If you would like to offer your thoughts on the best attributes a qualified candidate should possess or are interested in applying for a position on the search committee, Visit Here to fill out the corresponding survey.
