Salem Junior General Monthly Newsletter-June 2024 Salem Junior General Monthly Newsletter-June 2024

Dear Salem Elementary Families,

As we enter the final month of the school year, I want to express my gratitude for your unwavering support and partnership throughout this year. Your involvement has been crucial to the success and growth of our students.

We have several exciting events planned to celebrate the achievements and hard work of our students:

  • Elementary Spring Concert on June 4: Join us for an evening of wonderful performances showcasing our students' musical talents.

  • Various Field Trips: Our classes will be embarking on educational and fun field trips, providing hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom.

  • K-2 and 3-6 Field Days: A day filled with outdoor activities, games, and team-building exercises that promote physical fitness and camaraderie.

  • Flag Day: We will celebrate this patriotic event with activities highlighting the importance of our national symbols.

  • PreK Graduation: Our youngest learners will be celebrated as they complete their first milestone in their educational journey.

  • 6th Grade Moving Up Ceremony: We will honor our 6th graders as they prepare to transition to middle school, recognizing their accomplishments and growth.

As we look forward to summer, here are a few suggestions to keep the learning and fun going:

  • Encourage your child to read daily. Visit the local library and let them pick out books that interest them. Participate in summer reading programs.

  • Spend time outdoors exploring nature, playing sports, or going on family hikes. Physical activity is important for overall well-being.

  • Plan visits to museums, zoos, or historical sites. These trips can be both fun and educational.

  • Engage your child in arts and crafts, science experiments, or building projects. These activities can stimulate creativity and critical thinking.

  • Make time for family games, cooking together, or simply enjoying each other's company. Building strong family bonds is essential.

Thank you again for your continued support. Let's make this final month a memorable one for our students! Have a safe and fun-filled summer.

Monthly Character Trait for June- Grit

This month, we are excited to focus on the powerful character trait of grit. Grit is the passion and perseverance to achieve long-term goals. It involves staying dedicated and resilient in the face of challenges, and it helps students develop a growth mindset. By fostering grit, we aim to help our students build the skills they need to overcome obstacles and succeed in their academic and personal lives.

We encourage you to talk with your child about what they are learning and to share examples of grit from your own experiences. Together, we can support our children in developing this vital trait.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.

Early Dismissals: Procedure for Grades PreK-6

If a student in grades PreK-6 needs an early departure from school:

- A written note must be submitted to the classroom teacher in advance.

- The parent or guardian is then required to personally visit the elementary office to sign their child out. Reason for the early departure must be written on the sign out sheet along with the parent's signature.

Your child's safety is of paramount importance to us, and these protocols are in place to ensure that. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to these guidelines.

From the Nurse's Office

New York State law requires that any medication to be administered in a school setting, including over-the-counter medications, must have appropriate documentation from a physician. The law also provides guidelines for the administration of medication in schools to ensure the safety of students.

For the safety and well-being of all our students, we would like to remind everyone that any and all medications that require a doctor's script must be delivered directly to the health office by a parent or guardian. It's essential that medications are not sent with students or through others. This ensures the correct handling, dosage, and administration of the medication.

We understand the challenges and inconveniences that might arise from this, but the safety of our students remains our utmost priority. If you have questions or need to make specific arrangements, please do not hesitate to contact the health office.

🔔 Elementary School Arrival Information 🔔

The elementary school doors open at 7:50 a.m. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. We want to ensure that everyone has a smooth start to their day.

For parent drop-off, please use the designated area in front of the school. Students and their families should not be walking between our parked buses. It is not safe walking from the parking lot and along the buses to get to our elementary doors. Please help our drivers by approaching the buildings from the front of the school.

Punctuality is important. Students who enter the building after 8:00 a.m. will be considered tardy. Let's all work together to ensure everyone gets the most out of their learning time.

📣 Elementary School Dismissal Information 📣

Dismissal for all walkers and parent pick-ups will take place at 2:20-2:30 p.m. Please make sure to be on time so we can efficiently reunite you with your child(ren).

To facilitate a smooth dismissal process, we kindly ask that you wait in the designated area, on the front lawn, for pick-up.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience during dismissal. Safety is our top priority, and your assistance in adhering to our procedures contributes to a secure and efficient process.

Remember, clear communication and adherence to these dismissal procedures help us maintain a safe and organized environment for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact our school office.
