WAUWATOSA MONTESSORI SCHOOL
January 30th Newsletter
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Montessori families!
Happy last week of January! We had a week that started off with indoor recess and school-wide bingo over the PA system! We braved the cold a few days after that and worked on our threshold for indoor recess. While the district policy is we stay in if it feels like -5 or colder, some days above that temperature but still feel cold, or some times various apps give us various answers! We'll work to make safe decisions and please continue to send in all the gear for outside!
We also started this week by celebrating MLK day, and highlighting two of our students who were in the district video! Shout out to Dominic and Liya! They were recognized at the School Board meeting on Monday!
We closed out our week with an awesome lunch from the parents of Ms. Yifan's room and a fun Family Game Night put on by our PTSA. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to make these events successful! They have a great impact on our school!
Have a great weekend!

Milwaukee Wave Game - March 15th
We have many students who love soccer at our school, and we are fortunate enough to have a connection to the Milwaukee Wave! Head Coach, Marcio Leite, sends his kids to our school! We will be having a WMS night out to the Wave Game on March 15th at 2:05pm! Families are welcome to purchase tickets in our section and enjoy a night together watching soccer! To purchase tickets, click here. Tickets are $27.05 each and include a gift!
Marcio Leite is a veteran professional indoor soccer player and current head coach of the Milwaukee Wave in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL). Originally signed by the Wave in 2006, Leite has become one of the most respected figures in American indoor soccer through his sustained excellence on and off the field.
Born and raised in Brazil, Leite grew up immersed in the sport and brought that passion with him to the United States at age 22. He quickly established himself as a dynamic and versatile player, excelling as both a midfielder and an attacking defender. Over nearly two decades with the Wave, Leite has been a cornerstone of the franchise, known for his technical skill, leadership, and clutch performances — especially in playoff competition.
As a player, Leite has:
Appeared in hundreds of matches for the Milwaukee Wave since 2006, ranking among the club’s all-time leaders in goals and assists.
Won multiple indoor soccer championships (including MASL titles).
Earned playoff MVP honors on multiple occasions for his standout postseason performances.
In addition to his playing contributions, Leite has deep ties to the community and youth soccer development. He has served as a director at SC Wave, where he works with young players and helps shape the club’s coaching philosophy and pathway programs.
Transitioning into coaching, Leite now leads the Milwaukee Wave as head coach, bringing leadership, tactical insight, and his lifelong love of the game to the next generation of players. In the 2025-26 MASL season, he notched his first professional coaching win, signaling the start of an exciting new chapter in his already legendary career.

All School Read
We are excited to announce this year’s All-School Read, featuring two engaging, futuristic novels: The Lion of Mars by Jennifer L. Holm and The Giver by Lois Lowry.
One copy per family of The Lion of Mars will be sent home with your oldest or only student. We invite families to read this book together at home.
Families with students in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade will also receive one copy per family of The Giver, sent home with your oldest or only student. The Giver contains mature and complex themes that some younger readers may find disturbing or difficult to understand. We do not recommend this book for students younger than 6th grade. Students in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade are welcome to choose either book. The Lion of Mars and The Giver are being sent home to families of 6th–8th grade students.
Check your students' backpacks for more information.
Look for more information to come your way about our upcoming Literacy Night celebration on Feb. 18th from 5:30-7 pm.

We have 2 new student led clubs starting up!
Chess Club will start Monday, February 2nd and meet on Mondays from 3:30-4:30pm. Please bring your own chess board if you have one! This club is open for students in grades 3-8. Please complete this form if your child is interested in the club to help us plan for the appropriate space and supports!
Dragon Club will be starting soon! Stay tuned!
