School Counseling
School Counseling and representatives from NOVA will host a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and financial aid information session this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. This event is open to students and families of all grade levels and will provide valuable information about the financial aid and college application process. Use this link to learn more about the program.
PSAT Day
We will administer the PSAT to all students in grades 9-11 during the school day on Thursday, October 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please review all PSAT information, available in multiple languages, using the following link: https://app.smore.com/n/wa5kn
All students in grades 9-11 will receive an email on the afternoon/evening of Tuesday, October 20, with their testing location and important testing reminders. Please ask your child to check their LCPS email for this information.
Planned Absences on PSAT Day (Grades 9-11): Parents of students in grades 9-11 who plan to miss school on PSAT Day should have notified our School Testing Coordinator, Kim Berkey, by Friday, October 16, so testing plans could be finalized. Please also remember to submit the absence through ParentVUE.
Information for Seniors: Seniors will not take the PSAT. Senior Class sponsors have planned activities for seniors during the testing window.
Athletics and Extracurricular Activities: All students who participate in a school-sponsored activity (athletics, band, theater, and etc.) must attend school on PSAT Day to remain eligible for practice or competition.
Device Requirements: Students will take a digital version of the PSAT using their LCPS-issued device. A built-in Desmos calculator is available for the math portion of the assessment, so no separate calculator is required. Students must bring their fully charged LCPS-issued device on test day. Loaner devices and charging cords will not be available.
Students who arrive without a working, fully charged device will be assigned to a Study Hall and will not be able to take the PSAT. Please note that there are no make-up testing dates.
Device Issues: If your student is experiencing any device issues, including a cracked screen, damaged keys, charging problems, random clicking, or other technical concerns, please have them bring their device to Room 105 as soon as possible to see Eyler Santos or John Bowers. Do not wait until test day. Repairs cannot be guaranteed on the day of testing.
Additional Resources: Additional information about the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT can be found on the:
College Board PSAT website: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/
LCPS Office of Assessment website: https://www.lcps.org/o/lcps/page/psat
If you have questions regarding PSAT administration, please contact our School Testing Coordinator, Kim Berkey, at kimberly.berkey@lcps.org.
Adjusted Schedule and Lunch on the Lawn: LCHS will operate on an adjusted bell schedule on PSAT Day. After testing concludes, students will have the opportunity to participate in a Lunch on the Lawn event featuring yard games, an inflatable sports game, and cotton candy.
With testing behind them, we hope students will enjoy this chance to relax, spend time outdoors, connect with friends, and celebrate a successful morning. The weather forecast is looking favorable, and we are excited to provide an afternoon of fun and community for our students.
CAPS Tutoring
Is your student struggling with an assignment, project, or unit? We recently started a peer tutoring program called Collaborative Academic Peer Support (CAPS) Tutoring. Student tutors are available during all study hall blocks to tutor students who may need additional support across the core academic areas (English, Math, History, and Science w/ limited tutoring available in Spanish I - III). Because tutoring services are available to the entire school community and there are a limited number of student tutors, tutoring is designed to be one or two sessions and not on-going. The link for signing up can be found here (This link is accessible only via an LCPS email address, so please forward the link to your student in order for them to be able to sign up). If your student has questions about the program, please have them stop by the library to speak to one of the librarians.
ASVAB
Loudoun County High School will be offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on Thursday, October 29th, from 9am – 12pm in the school cafeteria. This is a teacher workday; therefore, students will need to provide their own transportation. This is an opportunity for 10th – 12th graders, ages 16 and above.
There is no cost to take this exam. Students will NOT be recruited by any member of the military before, during or after the exam. The purpose of this exam is to help young adults identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations and develop effective strategies to pursue their career goals.
For additional information about the exam please visit https://www.officialasvab.com/.
More information is available for students and parents in Schoolinks. Students can review these details by clicking on the "Events" tab in their Schoolinks account, then searching for "ASVAB" in the search bar. Specific details, as well as a parent permission form, are available there. Parent permission forms must be submitted via Schoolinks by Monday, October 26th.

Veterans Day Program
We are honored to invite veterans from our community to join us for our annual Veterans Day Program on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Loudoun County High School. The ceremony will begin at the start of our school day, and guests are asked to arrive between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. Veterans who wish to be recognized during the program should provide their name, rank, branch of service, and a brief summary of their service history to be shared with attendees.
Example Veteran Recognition Information:
Name: Captain John A. Smith, USA (Ret.)
Rank: Captain
Branch of Service: United States Army
Service Details: Served from 1988-2014. Completed deployments in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. Retired after 26 years of service and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.
Please send your recognition information to Crystal.Wolfgang@lcps.org no later than November 4, 2026, to ensure inclusion in the program.
Athletic Department
Winter tryouts begin on November 9, 2026 and will be a minimum of three days for the following sports• Girls Basketball • Boys Basketball • Sideline Cheerleading • Girls Gymnastics • Boys and Girls Swim • Boys and Girls Winter Track • Boys and Girls Wrestling
New This Winter: We now have a stand‑alone Girls Wrestling team. This means girls will compete in girls‑only wrestling matches and invitationals.
VHSL Physical & Registration Requirements: To participate, students must: • Upload a completed VHSL physical during the online registration process • Complete registration by visiting www.countysports.info and clicking on 2026 Registration. Physicals should NOT be emailed or brought to the athletic office. • Beginning in Fall 2026, physicals must be uploaded as part of the registration process. • Submitting a physical to NJROTC does NOT fulfill the athletics requirement.
Tryout Policy Reminder: Students may not try out for more than one sport during the tryout period. For example, a student cannot try out for both boys’ basketball and wrestling and then decide later which team to join. If a student is selected for the boys’ basketball team and later chooses not to participate, they have taken a roster spot that could have gone to another student. This may also prevent another student from making the basketball team.
Cut vs. Non‑Cut Sports: If a student tries out for a cut sport, such as basketball, and is not selected for the team, they may still join a non‑cut sport by November 18th. Non‑cut sports include: • Girls Gymnastics • Winter Track • Wrestling. Depending on participation numbers, other sports may also remain open without cuts, but this varies from year to year and is not guaranteed.
Tryout Times: Tryout times are tentative, and it is the student’s responsibility to listen carefully to the coaches’ instructions for the final tryout schedule and times.
