SUMMER CREDIT ADVANCEMENT (CAdv) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Summer Credit Advancement (CAdv) Program provides current High School (HS) students (9th-12th grade) & current 8th graders (2026-2027 9th graders) with an opportunity to accelerate eligible HS credit(s). The program is tuition-based and will be conducted via a hybrid learning environment (both in-person & virtual learning required) with the exception of PE, in which students must attend the specific campus in-person daily.
Summer CAdv is a supplemental program apart from the regular instructional school year. Summer CAdv students should have the ability to independently navigate a rigorous, fast-paced course curriculum and self-advocate when needing academic assistance.
Scroll down to the end of this page or use the Table of Contents on the left side of the page to find specific information on each of the course requirements.
Summer Hybrid Learning (not including PE)
What to expect with Hybrid Learning & Grading Policies:
- Applies to all Summer CAdv Courses, except PE.
- This Hybrid Learning component makes it flexible for the student to report in person when they need to, but able to stay at home to do the coursework. Pacing through the course is dependent on the student and how quick they progress through the course.
- Students must report in-person to have all quizzes/tests "unlocked" and proctored by a CAdv Teacher. The summer campus will be open Mondays-Thursdays between 9am-1pm during the Summer Session dates. Students do not have to arrive at 9am and do not have to stay the entire 4 hours. Students can report anytime during 9am-1pm for test proctoring and are allowed to leave after they complete the required proctored tests/quizzes.
- All learning & coursework (tutorials/assignments) can be completed by the student online/ virtually through the Canvas or Edmentum online platform, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during the registered summer session timeframe.
- Specific Unit coursework must be completed before the Proctor unlocks that specific Unit test.
- Students do not have to report the first day, everyday, or even have to log into the course everyday, but will need to make sure that all requirements are submitted by 12:30pm on the last day of their session.
- Missing work or tests will result in an “incomplete” & course credit will be NOT be posted to the student’s transcript. Zeros are not assigned for incomplete or missing work.
- Teacher availability (content assistance & test proctoring): Monday-Thursday, 9am-1pm. via google meets/email/chat & in-person at the summer campus.
- There are no exceptions to the hybrid learning environment or dates & times posted. All course requirements must be completed and submitted online by 12:30pm on the last day of the enrolled session.
CAdv Hybrid Course/ Grading Policies:
- Each course has several required tutorials, assignments, quizzes, and tests that must be completed 100% in it's entirety for a student to receive a grade.
- Incomplete Course: Missing work or tests will result in an “incomplete” & course credit will be NOT be posted to the student’s transcript. Zeros are not assigned for incomplete or missing work.
- Failing Grade (69 or below): If a student fails the course, they will not earn credit. Depending on the course prerequisites, they may not be able to start Summer Session 2. For example, if a Student fails or doesn’t complete Summer 1- Geometry A, they will not be able to take Summer 2- Geometry B.
- The student’s transcript will reflect the final numerical grade they earn for that Session Course and will be used in computing the student’s grade point average (GPA), regardless if the numerical grade is unsatisfactory. For example, if a Student earns a 72 in Geometry A & a 65 in Geometry B, those individual grades (72 & 65) will be posted on the transcript. In this example, both grades will be posted to the transcript, however the Student will only receive a half credit for Geometry A, but not for Geometry B.
- SS1 grades and SS2 grades are considered 2 separate grades and do not average out.
- After completing the course, if the student is not satisfied with the final grade (whether passing or failing), the student will be able to retake the course in-person during the school year in a regular classroom setting in an attempt to earn a higher grade, if the course is required for graduation. The higher grade will not replace the grade, but will be an additional transcript entry and used in calculating the HS GPA.
- Granting credit does not imply the student has acquired all of the knowledge and skills that would have been derived from completing the course in-person in a regular classroom setting.
- Cheating/ Plagiarism: Please refer to our NISD Handbook regarding Academic Integrity.
