The Sheiko Weekly Update
Sheiko Elementary: January 31, 2025

PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Dear Parents,
It has been another great week of learning at Sheiko Elementary! This week's "Big Announcement" is about preparing for upcoming testing. As we approach testing season with NWEA for all students (later this year) and MSTEP for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade we wanted to share some helpful tips:
How You Can Help Your Child Be Ready:
We understand that testing can be a source of stress for both students and parents. Here are some ways you can help your child prepare and feel confident:
Maintain a Positive Attitude: Encourage your child to approach the test with a positive mindset. Remind them that it's an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and that we are proud of their efforts.
Ensure Adequate Rest and Nutrition: Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast on testing days, whether at school or at home. A well-rested and nourished child will be better able to focus and perform their best.
Practice Good Study Habits: Help your child develop effective study habits, such as reviewing class notes, completing practice problems, and managing their time effectively.
Communicate with Teachers: Stay in communication with your child's teachers to understand their progress and any areas where they may need additional support.
Reduce Test Anxiety: Help your child manage test anxiety by encouraging them to take deep breaths, visualize success, and focus on what they can control.
We are committed to supporting your child's academic success. Your partnership in this process is essential.
Thank you for your support, and Goooooooooooo Lakers!
Warmly,
Blaine McDowell, Principal
