Adams Central Elementary Office News February 2022

A NOTE FROM THE OFFICE...

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for helping make January a great month of learning as we returned from Christmas break.

Thank you, parents, for ensuring that students arrive on time with work completed and all the materials they need to succeed during the school day. You are your child's first and best teacher, and the work you do at home is essential. You're doing great!

Thanks to our teachers, aides, and staff for settling back into routines quickly. Daily, our staff members work diligently to keep students learning. Covid has presented some unique challenges, but our staff has not missed a beat in overcoming each obstacle.

I want to also express gratitude to our substitute teachers for being flexible with scheduling and ensuring that our students are learning and safe when teachers are out of the building.

And I certainly want to thank our students for working hard each day to grow as learners. As I move throughout the building each day, it is impressive to see how they engage in discussions, work in groups, and present their learning to one another. Keep it up, Jets!

It is truly an honor to be principal at ACES!

As always, please reach out if you need anything.

VIRTUAL LEARNING DAY WORK

Thank you for working with your children at home during the virtual learning days. Administration and teachers will continue to reflect on the instruction and assignments that are provided so that we can fine-tune this experience for students and their families. We couldn't continue to use these days without your support.

ALL assignments are due Wed. February 9 at 8:00 AM.
Students with incomplete assignments will be required to make up work during non-instructional times on Wed. February 9 and may be asked to work on incomplete assignments prior to this date as well so that real-time classroom instruction is more fluid.

MIDTERMS and WINTER NWEA REPORTS

Today your students will be bringing home 3rd quarter midterm reports and winter NWEA reports. Do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or the elementary office if you have questions regarding either report.

This link will take you to the NWEA Family Toolkit which includes a lot of information regarding the test, interpreting data, and ways to support your student's learning.

SECOND GRADE IREAD-3 TESTING

Parents of Second Grade Students please note that AC Elementary has opted into a unique offering by the IDOE. Our current 2nd-grade students will be taking the IREAD-3 assessment in March (see dates below).

Benefits of taking this test as second-grade students:

Data provided from this experience will help teachers target areas of concern prior to the IREAD-3 test in 3rd-grade.
Interventions lead to higher pass rates at grade 3.
Students who pass the test as 2nd-graders will not need to retest IREAD-3 in 3rd grade.

STATE TESTING INFORMATION... MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

This semester will include State Testing such WIDA, I AM, IREAD-3, and ILEARN. It is essential that students are present during these testing windows.

I AM and WIDA testing have longer testing windows and students are pulled mainly on an individual basis. If your child is to take I AM or WIDA testing, you will already have been made aware of this during discussions with the classroom teacher.

Grade level testing takes place for IREAD-3 and ILEARN each spring.

Grades 2 and 3 will take IREAD-3 on March 15 and 16 with practice testing taking place prior. Parents can read more about the IREAD-3 test here.

ILEARN TESTING DATES GRADES 3-5

Practice Tests April 4-7
Math April 20-21
ELA April 25, 27, 28
Science/SS May 4-5

LATCHKEY UPDATES

2021 Tax Reports were mailed via USPS last week. If you have not received your report you may pick it up from Mrs. Alberson at afternoon latchkey.

If you wish to enroll your student in Latchkey, please contact the elementary office for more information. Mrs. Alberson may be contacted via email at albersonv@accs.k12.in.us

2022-2023 KINDERGARTEN SCREENING THURSDAY, APRIL 14

It's hard to believe that we are already thinking about the 2022-2023 school year, but it's time to round up all potential students for next year's kindergarten class. Children must be 5 years of age prior to August 1, 2022.

During the week of February 28, families should come into the elementary office to pick up a registration packet and sign up for a screening time. Screenings will be held on Thursday, April 14. Details will be provided within the screening packet.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATES

With the arrival of snow come questions about playing in this glorious white stuff at recess! In order to play in the snow, students need to have snow pants and a change of boots to prevent spending the remainder of the day in wet clothing. All other students will play on the blacktop area or areas where snow has been cleared.

Students need to have coats, hats, and gloves daily as we make every effort to get outside for playtime when possible!

LUNCH MENU

With winter cancelations and delays or the unavailability of various items, the lunch menu may need to change at times. Please continue to check the website frequently for revisions.
