SCS Weekly Newsletter 2/4/25
Do I smell kiln-fired pottery in my future, or pizza?
From the Principal's Desk:
Dear Salisbury Community School Families and Friends,
Happy February! The shortest month of the year, and one of the coldest, but I always enjoy it, as it starts staying light out noticeably later in the evening- it makes it even easier to go out and enjoy some winter fun! We look forward to getting back into some winter fun next week as we go to Rikert again on the 13th!
A couple fun things:
1) Our kiln has been installed, and we are excited for some pottery! Thank you to ACSD Curriculum Director of Teaching and Learning Courtney Krahn, ACSD Facilities Director Bruce MacIntire, and ACSD Assistant Director of Facilities Eric Warren for their help in getting everything set up!
2: We have an important event going on over the next few weeks, organized and sponsored by FOSCS- the Friends of Salisbury Community School. It is our annual Little Caesar's fundraiser- FOSCS' largest fundraiser of the year, and an important piece in allowing us to fund fun student activities, and also allowing FOSCS to hold some of their special events! Folders for the Little Caesar's Fundraiser will be coming home in student backpacks on Tuesday the 4th.
Thanks so much! Have a great week!
Best,
Bjarki

SCS News:
Pizza! Get your Pizza (and breadsticks, and cookie dough) here! It's the Little Ceasar's Fundraiser!
Our annual fundraiser for FOSCS (Friends of Salisbury Community School) is here once again. As a school community we will be selling Little Caesar’s Kits for the next two weeks. Students have folders coming home with order forms.
Orders can be placed online (www.pizzakit.com Fundraiser ID# 454343) or by paper (payment due at time of order, payable to FOSCS) and are due back to school Friday, Feb. 14th. Kits will be delivered to school for pickup by each seller in early March-we will send home more detailed information as the delivery draws closer.
If pizza and cookies aren’t your thing, we also gratefully accept direct donations which can be made by check to FOSCS or by Venmo @FOSCSvt
Thank you for your support of our students and school community! FOSCS uses the funds raised throughout the year to put on fun events, show appreciation for SCS staff, and provide extra enrichment as needed like art supplies and field trip support.

SCS Announcements:
"Options-Based" Safety Drill went great!
Last Friday, as part of our normal process of school safety preparation, we ran a School Safety Drill. This drill had our students think about and practice what they can, and should, do in case of an event that requires us to clear the halls when we are in a time of day where students are transitioning from place to place, not just in their rooms. The kids did a great job, and even from "unusual spots" they were safely away in rooms very, very quickly once the drill started (the included picture was only seconds after the drill began). Kudos to the students and teachers for taking things seriously, paying attention, and practicing being safe.
Save The Date for an Evening CLIf Literacy Event with poet Ted Scheu! Feb 20th!
In February we are lucky to have some fun Children's Literacy Foundation events coming up! On the the 4th "That Poetry Guy" Ted Scheu will be joining our classes to do some poetry activities, but that will just be a warm-up to our big event: an evening "CLIF Literacy Night" on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20th where Ted will return to be part of a larger event focusing on poetry, writing, and using language to express ourselves. We will serve dinner as well. Please come- so SAVE THE DATE!

Fun Feature! Time-Lapse Picture Project.
New for 24-25: The Time-Lapse Picture Project
This year, we thought it would be fun to chronicle the changes of the season at Salisbury Community School by taking the same picture, at the same time, from the same spot, every week. At the end of the year it will hopefully be a fun thing to look at and share!
