Principal Corner

Dear Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and safe, especially in light of recent challenges brought about by the storm.

๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ”ญ Solar Eclipse - April 8 ๐ŸŒ˜๐ŸŒŸ

Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience at AES as we gear up for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8! The excitement is palpable as we prepare for a day filled with integrated activities and a special viewing event on Shea Field.

Integrated Activities:

  • Throughout the day, students will engage in interactive activities and informative sessions delving into the science behind eclipses. From hands-on experiments to captivating videos, there's something for everyone to explore!

Safety First:

  • We're thrilled to announce that the district has provided safety glasses for all students and staff. These glasses ensure safe observation of the eclipse, allowing everyone to enjoy this celestial phenomenon without any worries.

State Bill - NH HB1471:

  • A state bill has designated April 8, 2024, the day of the total solar eclipse, as a school holiday in New Hampshire. This bill allows school districts to create organized viewing events and other educational experiences related to the eclipse. It's an incredible opportunity for students, parents, and educators to witness this rare natural occurrence firsthand. Additionally, per state bill NH HB1471, students who are dismissed early or absent will be excused.

Viewing Event at AES:

  • Antrim will experience a partial eclipse, starting at 2:15 PM, with the peak occurring at 3:29 PM. While the peak happens after dismissal, we're hoping to take students outside with eclipse viewing glasses for the last part of our day together.
  • We extend a warm invitation to all families to join us at 3:00 PM on Shea Field for this unforgettable experience! Come to AES and witness the magic of the solar eclipse alongside our students and staff.

Dismissal Plans:

  • Any Changes in Dismissal Plans: If dismissing your child early or if they will be absent, please enter the change into Pick-Up Patrol. If you choose to join us on Shea Field for the eclipse viewing, please indicate the change in Pick-Up Patrol as well, by entering "eclipse viewing."
  • Regular Dismissal: Students whose dismissal plans remain unchanged will be dismissed according to their daily plan at 3:20 PM. While students who ride the bus home will not be able to join us for the peak of the eclipse at school. They will still receive eclipse glasses and can hopefully view it safely from the bus or upon arrival home. Please remind your child of the importance of wearing the glasses for their safety.

Safety First:

While we're thrilled about this educational opportunity, safety is our top priority. Please remind your child about the importance of using the provided safety glasses when observing the eclipse. These glasses are specifically designed to shield their eyes from the sun's harmful rays during the event. We have enough glasses for all students and staff.

Additional Glasses for Families: While there will be a few remaining glasses for families who come to the viewing, we cannot guarantee there will be enough pairs for all families. Parents and other visitors can obtain glasses free of charge from the James Tuttle Library, Our Town Eye Care in Peterborough (with a donation of non-perishable food items), or order them online for a charge.

Let's make this eclipse viewing experience both educational and safe for everyone involved!

What's Happening at AES What's Happening at AES

Kindergarten Kindergarten

One of our Kindergarten WIN groups has been working hard over the past month reading Frog and Toad books! Weโ€™ve read Frog and Toad All Year and Frog and Toad Are Friends. After finishing our second book the group decided that theyโ€™d like to make a coloring book. Each student drew pictures for the coloring book and wrote sentences explaining what is happening in the picture. We made copies of the coloring book for each student in Kindergarten! It was such a fun way to share our learning with our friends.

Library Library

Students visiting the library last week decorated different types of eggs. They made wooden egg magnets and painted large paper eggs. They are displayed on our bulletin board out in the hall. Come take a peek at them.

Third graders learned about how people celebrate April Foolโ€™s Day in France. Students painted April Fish. Ask your child about it.

Grade 4 Grade 4

In Mrs. Beaumontโ€™s class 4th graders have been learning about the upcoming Solar Eclipse by watching videos, reading articles, and examining infographics and brochures. Students are using these resources to answer two essential questions: What happens during a solar eclipse? Why is eye protection important? Students have chosen to share the information theyโ€™ve learned by writing speeches, creating slideshows, designing posters, and writing and filming a short film. We are excited to share our projects with the rest of the school!
