And Green Apples Win!

This week, we finished learning about apples! Today we did a taste test with different ways to eat apples. Believe it or not kids love the sour green apple. Students also tasted muffins, apple pie, and apple sauce. Fall is a delicious part of the year!

Exploring the World Around Us...

Grade 3-4 learned about landforms in LMR with Miss Brett this week. They learned to read closely for the purpose of taking notes on an assigned topic. On Friday, it was time to create an island and add at least 5 landforms! So much inventiveness!

PE Games

This past week in P.E. second, third, and fourth grades got to practice their underhand and overhand throwing skills, as well as their catching skills. While kindergarten and first grade worked on their underhand throwing and catching skills.

Next rotation all grades will continue with working on throwing and catching before diving into our kicking skills with soccer!

For Health, this week third and fourth grade continued their exploration through their skeletal and muscular systems; while second grade began discussing what the word family means, who makes up a family, and how it’s ever changing. First grade and kindergarten class entered the world of germs. They conducted two science experiments on how germs spread and how they react to soup!

A Note From the Principal

Ever felt like your body and brain were moving too fast or too slow? What do you do to help regulate yourself? The students at FES are learning how to do just that. Recognizing feelings is complicated. When students are able to do this they can focus on problem solving and their learning. Managing those thoughts and feelings helps students to feel motivated and engaged in their learning. The Zones of Regulation organize those feelings into zones and colors. The blue zone is when you are feeling slow in your body or brain. The yellow is an increase in the intensity and size of your thoughts and feelings. The red zone is when your thoughts and feelings are out of control. The green zone is when your brain and body are ready to learn. All feelings are okay. We are working on strategies to manage them to enhance our ability to grow as learners.
