End of Year Athletic Banquet - May 14th
This year, we will be holding our End of Year Athletic Banquet on May 14th at 5:30 PM at the Homestead Festival House. Due to limited spacing, we are only allowing for immediate family to attend. Please use the form here to RSVP to attend that evening. The cost will be $10 per family member. Coaches, athletes, and siblings under the age of 5 will be free. Since there will be limited spacing that night, tickets will be provided to students prior to the event and parents will be required to bring their tickets and pay upon entry. 8th Grade Career Development Plans
We are excited to announce that all of our 8th-grade students have successfully met the North Carolina state requirement to create a Career Development Plan (CDP) prior to their promotion to high school.
What is the Career Development Plan?
In accordance with North Carolina Session Law 2023-134, students must complete a CDP to help them identify career pathways that align with their self-assessments, aptitudes, and interests. This plan serves as a roadmap for their academic course selection and extracurricular involvement as they transition into 9th grade and beyond.
How Students Created Their Plans
Our students have worked diligently using two primary digital platforms:
CFNC (College Foundation of North Carolina): Used for initial account creation and early exploration.
NCCareers.org: The primary platform where the official Career Development Plan was developed and recorded.
How to Access Your Student’s Plan
As a parent, you are encouraged to review and monitor your student’s progress. To view the completed plan:
Ask your student to log in to their account at NCCareers.org.
From their dashboard, students can grant you access or share the plan directly with you electronically.
Next Steps
While the initial requirement for 8th-grade promotion is complete, this is a "living document." Students will be required to revise and update their plans again before they are promoted from the 10th grade to ensure their goals remain aligned with their evolving interests.
We are proud of our students for taking this proactive step toward their future success. If you have any questions regarding the CDP process, please contact their school counselor, Ms. Lipscomb.
Rising 6th Grade Parent Information
Thank you to all of those who came out for our Rising 6th Grade Parent Night last week. If you were unable to attend, you can view the slide presentation by clicking on the image. Also, below you will find two QR codes for Parents. The first provides you with an opportunity to give us feedback into our Title 1 spending practices. The second allows you to make elective preference selections for your child. We are asking all rising 6th Grade families to complete both surveys.
Parent Title 1 Survey and Student Elective Preferences (Rising 6th Grade Only)
This week we are starting a new initiative where each month we will recognize our staff, but then also provide opportunities for you as parents to provide us with feedback about how we can improve at NMS. Linked below are two surveys.
The first survey is to help us recognize a Teacher of the Month for NMS. As we seek to celebrate the hard work our staff are putting in every day, we would appreciate your support in nominating members of our staff.
The second survey linked below is for Parent Feedback. This short survey would help provide us with insight into better addressing your child's needs during the second semester, improving our communication, and providing a voice for concerns you currently have. Each of these surveys will be available through next week.
