Equity Work and What it Looks Like in Our District
EWSD Director of Equity Erin Maguire was recently interviewed for an article in the Essex Reporter. The article includes statements about what equity work means and how it looks in our District.

December EWSD Transportation Updates
- Improved Numbers: This year we have had only nine bus cancellations from the start of school in September through December 8. Last year we had 156 bus cancellations during that same time frame.
- EHS Mid-Term Exams: This year for EHS mid-term exams there will be no modified transportation routes for general education or specialized buses. Buses will run on their regularly scheduled times for pick-up and dismissal.
- Winter Safety Tips: With our first significant snowfall taking place earlier this week, view some winter safety tips in the December update online!
EHS Rink Safety
As winter sports season approaches, we wanted to remind families, friends, and fans about a section of the rink that is restricted during games. Please view the image to see the section that will be closed off as an abundance of caution to ensure there are no spectators near the visiting team locker room.

Harvest Day
The EWSD Child Nutrition Program presented its annual District-wide Vermont Harvest Menu to celebrate the collaboration with local producers. A huge thank you to the EWSD local vendors and partners for helping make this happen! 🍎🍝🧀🥖
100 Meals
Essex Parks and Rec partnered with CTE's Professional Foods program to prepare and deliver 100 meals to seniors in the Essex community! 🦃🥧🍎🌽
Music Tournament
EMS and ADL French students participated in a two-week-long music tournament sponsored by Roxxem and Manie Musicale featuring eight French pop songs. They earned points by playing games both in class and on their own, and they all worked very hard! 🎶🏆
Honorable Mention
EHS junior Hailey Messier has been selected for an Honorable Mention in Vermont's 2023 Presidential Scholars program. Congratulations! 🐝🏆
Tri-M Induction
The EHS chapter of the national music honor society, Tri-M, recently had their annual induction ceremony. Congratulations to all returning and newly inducted members! 👏👏🐝🐝
Green Eggs and Ham
Hiawatha first graders recently finished a literacy unit focused on - A World of Books. Their final book was Green Eggs and Ham. All first graders gathered to read aloud the book together and were then surprised with the opportunity to try green eggs! 📚💚🥚
Hand-to Hand Sale
Hour of Code
Summit 3rd graders learned to program robots called Ozobots. Ozobots are line-following robots that move along the paths that students draw, as they recognize color patterns and execute code based upon the color sequences that students create. 🤖🖍️💻
