Welcome to the Wednesday of QUIT TOBACCO WEEK 2025!

Where are your go to spaces to play? The recreational center just two blocks down? The dog park with your puppies? The walking and biking trails? Or is it the sports facility where your children compete? Wherever you consider your space to relax and spend time outdoors with loved ones or just by yourself is a space that can be healthier if it is tobacco and vape free.

This Wednesday, let's focus on how tobacco and vape free policies protect our community spaces and help everyone breathe a little easier.

Youth and Adolescents

Remember when restaurants and bars were not tobacco free? There is a generation that has no memory of that. And that is awesome!

Creating more tobacco and vape free spaces for youth normalizes tobacco and vape-free lifestyles and reinforces the importance of healthy choices. This is important for deterring youth from starting to smoke or vape. You can help educate young people about the risks of smoking and vaping and the role that public spaces play in shaping their decisions.

Learn more about how you can help educate youth on these issues on the Parents Against Vaping Website.

Parents and Families

Tobacco- and vape-free parks and playgrounds create healthier environments for children, ensuring they can play without exposure to harmful substances like secondhand smoke or aerosol.

Supporting local tobacco-free and vape-free policies in public spaces helps protect the health of all families. You can play a key role in creating safe, smoke-free spaces by advocating for these policies in your community.

Recreational Facility Managers

Adopting tobacco and vape free policies in recreational spaces reduces litter, minimizes maintenance costs, and creates a safer, healthier environment for all visitors.

These policies not only benefit the health of individuals but also helps promote positive community norms.

Here's guidance on creating and implementing tobacco and vape free policies for public spaces from the American Lung Association's Smokefree Environments page.
