Drumming Circle
Troy Howes has started leading a drumming circle for students in 3rd grade and up. Practices are held at the Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If there is enough interest in high school students who can not attend these times due to Winter Sports there is a possibility of creating a second timeslot.

If there is enough interest from high school students who are unable to attend due to Winter Sports, Troy may be able to add an additional time. If this is of interest to your student please email me at rebecca.scherf@superior.k12.wi.us

Fry Bread Night Fry Bread Night

Fry Bread Night, held on November 14th at Superior Middle School, was a resounding success! We had over 60 participants join in on the activities. Troy Howes led members of the new drumming circle, while other kids eagerly tried their hand at drumming as well. One of our Aunties facilitated a fry bread tutorial, allowing children and their families to make their own fry bread. A delicious dinner was served, and Dillon Krisik provided a traditional lacrosse lesson. Additionally, we enjoyed a lively game of Ojibwe Bingo. Fun was had by all!

Thanksgiving Thanksgiving

The True Meaning
Native Girls Describle the REAL History of Thanksgiving

As Native peoples, Thanksgiving takes on a different meaning for us. This day can serve as an opportunity to share the true history of our people, highlighting the resilience and struggles we have faced. Many choose to spend this time with family, gathering around the table to enjoy traditional foods and engage in meaningful conversations.

Some may observe the National Day of Mourning, a time to acknowledge the injustices faced by Indigenous communities throughout history and honor those who came before us. Whether you choose to celebrate with family, reflect on the past, or simply take some time for yourself, I encourage you to use this break to pause and consider the legacy of our ancestors.

Let us take a moment to remember their strength and sacrifices, and strive to honor their memories in our daily lives. This Thanksgiving, may we all find ways to celebrate our heritage and pay tribute to those who paved the way for us.
