December Lifeline: HOPE
Hope is about believing good things can happen in the future. It means thinking positively, setting goals, and taking steps to reach them. Hope isn’t just a “happy feeling”—it’s choosing to keep trying, even when things are tough.
People who are optimistic tend to explain challenges in a way that helps them keep moving forward. They think, “I can learn from this,” or “Things can get better.” People who feel more pessimistic might think problems are out of their control or won’t change.
When we practice hope, we look for possibilities, make a plan, and believe we can make progress—one step at a time.
Dear Boone Meadow Families -
As we head into the final stretch before winter break, the building is buzzing with excitement—snow in the air, seasonal celebrations on the horizon, and students wrapping up their NWEA assessments. We’re already using this information to guide our planning for semester two, and our staff is working hard to keep learning steady, joyful, and positive during this high-energy time. Thank you for the many ways you support your children and our school community during this exciting season.
A quick note of thanks: Today is the final day to donate to Adopt Team Meadow. Participation is completely optional, and we are incredibly grateful to our PTO for coordinating such a generous effort to lift the spirits of our entire staff. If you wish to participate, you’ll find details below.
We also want to send our very best to the Boone Meadow Voices as they take the stage tonight at ZWMS at 7:00 PM and again on Monday afternoon at Independence Village Senior Living. A huge thank-you to Jennifer Welch for her leadership and the wonderful opportunities she creates for our student musicians.
Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the winter weather this weekend. We look forward to seeing many of you next Friday, December 19th, for classroom winter celebrations.
With gratitude,
Tom & Jarrod
Tom Hundley, Principal
Jarrod Gatlin, Assistant Principal

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) - Kindy & 2nd grade
The CogAT is a multiple-choice assessment administered to students in kindergarten and second grade. This is a computer-based assessment that measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal questions. The results of this assessment are used as part of our state required advanced curriculum and instruction identification that takes place later in the spring. After scoring has been completed for all students, toward the end of March, families will receive a report with student data. If you have any questions, please contact our school counselor, Kristi Sloan.
Boone Meadow kindergarten and 2nd grade students will be taking the CogAT during the week of January 20th.
Family Assistance - Boone Meadow Cares for Our Families
Life can sometimes bring unexpected challenges, and we want our Boone Meadow families to know—you are not alone. If your family could use a little extra support with food items, meal assistance/student fees, whether for a short season or throughout the school year, we’re here to help in kind and confidential ways.
Weekend Food Support – BME Backpack Program
Through our Backpack Program, Boone Meadow provides non-perishable food items each Friday to families who may benefit from additional support. Items often include soups, vegetables, macaroni and cheese cups, or snacks to help bridge the weekend gap. Food is placed discreetly into students’ backpacks before they head home.
If you would like to receive extra food support through this program, please click the link below to sign up.

Winter Weather Reminders
With our recent winter weather, this is a good time to share a few reminders about procedures on snowy or cold days:
Two-hour delays: On delay days, we are unable to have outdoor recess due to the abbreviated day and adjusted schedules for related arts and lunch.
Snow play: Students must have proper snow gear (snow pants, boots, hats, gloves) in order to play in the snow. Students without full gear will still have access to games and playground equipment in the cleared/safe areas of the back lot.
Cold temperatures: We value fresh air, and students should be prepared for outdoor play if temperatures are above 10 degrees. Thank you for sending your child prepared for the weather.
Label your gear: Winter gear is easily misplaced, and names on items help us return belongings quickly. Our lost and found grows rapidly this time of year!

Lunch Guests & Reservations
Lunch Guests
We are ready to welcome lunch guests! Students and their guests will have lunch at designated locations in the front lobby area. Please no more than 2 guests per student due to limited space. So that others may have the opportunity, we ask that you not sign up more than 1 time per month. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability the first two weeks to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits.
Here's how it works:
- Sign up for a reservation in advance using this link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/BMELunchSchedule@zcsk12in.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/ When you sign up, please be certain to complete all fields requested.
- Bring a photo ID and arrive 5 minutes early (lunch times are listed on the signup form link above).
- Your child will meet you in the front office area when they are ready.
- HAVE FUN!
Visitors and Volunteers
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer's first volunteer experience, the individual must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days before the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state-mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
